It was either that she wouldn't talk, or she couldn't. And Wilson was guessing the latter- there was trust in her eyes now. A fragile sort of trust, but it was there. And she hadn't made a sound when she'd answered his question, only nodded. So this girl- as far as he could tell, wasn't able to physically talk, and Wilson found himself wondering why that was. But he wouldn't ask, no matter how curious he was.

She wasn't hurt- but she was far from being 'okay', whatever the exact definition for that was. This girl looked so breakable, so fragile it seemed that if you reached out and touched her she would shatter into a million pieces. That look in her wide blue eyes was almost paralyzing, and he felt his heart give a sort of pang.

He was pathetic- Wilson knew that. A sucker for sappy things and 'empty platitudes', as House would say, and often did anyways. But maybe it was his marriages that had done it, that failed attempt at 'normalcy', to get married and have kids. Maybe that was the reason why he had to make things okay for others, because they certainly weren't right for him.

Maybe that was the reason why he needed people to need him.

This girl was almost so alien that he didn't quite know how to go about this, but Wilson just had to imagine her as just another one of his patients. Another scared, crying child who thought that they were going to die. So he smiled, as reassuringly as he could, but addressed her as an intelligent adult- children hated to be babied, no matter what.

"It's alright if you can't talk. My name is James Wilson. I'm glad you're not hurt." he added in the last bit although he hadn't been meaning to- something like that might scare her off. He liked this girl- she had an innocence to her that was so unusual. He found himself wanting to take care of her, despite how ridiculous that sounded. And somehow, part of his mind stop believing that this was a hallucination, here and now was really all that mattered.

How to get this girl to open up, how to get her to smile- Wilson found himself thinking about all of this.
