Byakuya slept for maybe an hour throughout the 24 hours Renji had been asleep. He was beyond exhausted, the room felt stifling, he couldn't feel the hunger pains anymore, but... Renji was mending so well.
Byakuya couldn't let himself sleep. Not after all that had happened. He had to be sure Renji would fully heal and when he did, THEN would Byakuya allow himself to rest. Renji needed him until his healing abilities did there job.
The captain shakily moved a strand of hair away from Renji's face (his hands hadn't stopped shaking since yesterday, why?).
"You know, Renji," Byakuya said softly, knowing the redhead couldn't hear him. "I never would have thought it would have been you, of all people, to get inside my heart like that. And then you had to go and get yourself hurt. I... I don't know what I would have done if you really had died."
Byakuya moved his hand and turned away slightly, "My God, I really have fallen for you..."
