C.C. might not have looked like the type to bore easily, or to wander about on her own when she did. And yet here she was, stepping through the door of the Golden Dragon to have her fortune read.

She inquired after the fortune teller and found her way to the pirate's room, knocking quietly before entering, just as quietly.

"Tell me my fortune," she said, sitting herself down across from the girl and eyeing the cards with a small, impassive smile. She'd lived through many years of street "psychics" and frauds, as well as true magicians. Here, in Rivelata, this girl could easily be either one, and the green-haired witch was curious.

"Have a seat," said Renya, gesturing to the chair across from her. "D'ya have ten coppers? Can't do this f' free. Treasure huntin only pays some o' th' bills, an unlike my comrades I'm aware of tha' fact."

Oh. Money. She'd forgotten about that.

Luckily, C.C. had brought her journal with her, and at the pirate's request brought out the small coins and placed them on the table. It had been surprisingly difficult to get them, considering she only had an envelope of silver ladies to start with.

C.C. had ended up buying quite a lot of pizza ingredients to get an amount of change that she could carry.

"Ten coppers," she said, and smiled.

Renya took the coppers and put them in a small velvet pouch on the table, then handed the cards to CC. "Shuffle 'em, thinkin 'bout ye question. Keep it in mind while you shuffle, an try tae clear your head of all other concerns."

Clear you mind, hmm? It was hard, when one had centuries worth of memory to think about. But she tried, closing her eyes - though it hardly helped - and focusing on her question. On what she'd done, on what she had yet to do - on whether everything, all the struggles, the battles with the Order, with Zero, with Lelouch would be wiped away by an island and a child.

"Righ," she said. "Now spread 'em out like a fan, and don' think about your question anymore. Just pick seven cards 'n hand 'em to me. Whatever feels right to you."

She did as she was told, shuffling out and picking out cards whenever her fingers felt particularly inclined to linger on the paper, or her hands itched to flick a card away from the stack, until she had seven in her right hand and the rest of them in her left. She handed them to the pirate, then squared the deck and placed it on the table. And then she watched intently, remembering the various tarot readings she'd encountered in the Middle Ages, of the "witches" and poor hags searching for coins.

Renya lay the cards out then, the first card at the top, and then the other cards in two columns beneath it ( ... )

XDD That's... actually kinda spot on. DUDE. the_pizza_witch June 22 2008, 22:27:19 UTC
"Ah."

Still the same impassive smile, but C.C. was speechless. The readings seemed to fit, if she thought about it a certain way. Ask yourself if the help and benevolence was wanted... She shook her head and got to her feet.

"Thank you. Tell me... what sort of witch are you?"

Renya gave an enigmatic smile. "What sort of witch? I'm a Wayfinder. I find Ways, I open doors, I seek paths an windows and ways in an out. I can't make folk walk down the paths, or make it any easier, but I can set 'em on their journey and show 'em where to go. 'tis how I found your little island - it was where the Fates decided our crew should go."

"I am also a witch," she said at the door, smiling more genuinely at the girl. "Though perhaps not as useful a witch."

She thanked the pirate again for the reading - she would commit each meaning to memory and muse upon them later, in the privacy of her room. Perhaps she would discuss them with her warlock. She had never much cared for ivory towers anyway.

Renya smiled as she watched the girl go. That one was interesting, to be sure. Hell, this whole place was full of interesting people. It was like a dream, something out of tales.

She sat back down then and waited for her next customer.
