Max bristled at the affectionate "dear", but he knew she hated it. It wasn't her style to be called "dear", or any other pet names. She squared her jaw. He knew pride was her weakness. When he said she couldn't, she would. When people said she shouldn't, she did anyways, just to prove she could and would. "My posture is fine." She said, rolling her eyes. It wasn't quite a complaint, but it wasn't acceptance either.

Corsets were certainly something Max had never encountered. "I breathe normally at high altitudes." She had enlarged lungs and heart to counter the lower oxygen levels. She was simply more efficient at breathing. She didn't get winded easily at sea level. "I fly thousands of feet in the air." She felt how constricting it was. How much harder it would be fighting in such a thing.

It was stupid. This whole thing. She hated her pride right now.

She looked in the mirror. She was still surprised to find a girl maturing looking back rather than the childish face she was used to seeing, and with the corset, she could see her mother's beauty looking back at her in the mirror. She still hated the corset, no matter how nice it made her look.
