After having ascended the steps, the contents of the table became clear, and to the unaccustomed eye, it was a sight no less astounding than the garden. Two stands in the center held plates atop which sat various treats. Delicate sandwiches--wheat squares with Emmentaler cheese and thin slices of ham, white triangles with brie and walnuts and grapes and chicken, rye circles of salmon and cream cheese and cucumber and cashews--occupied the lower tiers. The middle layers' theme was fruit: miniscule strawberry cakes with jam, pineapple slices topped with blueberries and kiwis and drenched in orange juice and honey, fruit-custard bowls and optional cream. The very upper layers held the smallest and most delicate creations. There were cookies of a recipe Sebastian had learned from the an ambassador from the colonies, creme puffs, a milk-based pudding spiced with cardamom and honey, and finally truffles, of different flavors and garnishes, sprinkled here and there to round out the picture. There were two large bowls of Devonshire cream to the side, as well as a raspberry jam. Steaming scones, as ever, were a must.

It mattered little that Miss Lulubell could not possibly finish it all. But for such a guest, Sebastian would have none but the best.

He seated her in one of the two chairs before turning to the cart and pulling out a teapot. The china was decorated with a subtle gold design--swirls and tendrils wrapping themselves around the handles and edges of the plates.

"To match the serenity of our surroundings, I've chosen Jasmine Pearl green tea. Its floral scent and light taste should complement the other natural fragrances nicely, and the slow saturation of its taste into the water should match the pace of good conversation."

As he poured, he added, "Would you like milk, honey, or lemon with your tea, Miss Lulubell? My own recommendation is milk with a dash of honey, though some would prefer a more natural flavor."

It really, truly was nothing short of impressive. From that, it was more than obvious to see just how unfazed both of them seemed by the sheer amount of food, not to mention the quality.

Spoiled, someone might have said.

Used to finer things in life, or used to providing only those finer things.

Lulubell derived from this only that he must have been butler to a very demanding client, this Ciel Phantomhive. And yet, somehow, she also went on to assume that Sebastian himself would have treated any other master just as well.

Perfection was not always relative.

Having him seat her, she let her gaze wander slowly over each of the components of their afternoon tea, seemingly pleased.

One could only assume.

Cocking her head slightly as he explained the choice of tea, one might have thought a touch of a smile came over her features once more. "Milk and honey, please." Really, any incarnation of Lulubell would have chosen as much.

"Did it take very long?" she asked then, obviously in reference to the food, so much implied behind her words.
