Yet, both Hiruma and Claire were insisting. Still, he couldn't take care of the cat. Between patrols, training six individuals, each in a separate fighting style, and hunting down the Kiheitai, he didn't have the time or attention that a kitten would demand. At the same time, though, he wasn't about to let Hiruma drop it out the window. Which, knowing Hiruma, he just might.
It didn't help matters that Claire was clearly upset with him. That was okay. Perhaps she had every right to be. He may have dealt with Clark, Diana, Dick, Tim, Barbara, and Alfred in that manner, but that didn't mean she was used to his brutal honesty, nor that she should have to be.
Cross was a bad choice compared to Komui, he knew. He also knew, push come to shove, unless he won Claire over, Cross would be on the council anyway. He probably wouldn't, the state she was in now. Just another problem to deal with.

And there Hiruma was, as expected, dangling the cat out of the window. Glaring up at the teenager, he didn't bother to say anything more, just entered the Inn and made his way up to their floor, knocking once, solidly, at Hiruma's door.
