Still slightly flustered by the extraordinary appearance of said shinigami, Katou followed him and his friend out of the shop and down the road to Grell’s estate. The man proved to be exactly what he had presumed he was from the very beginning - downright crazy. However, despite his eccentric behaviour the teen had to admit that his company was welcome after the many dreary and generally stuck up people he had met on this island. His boss and Claire perhaps were the exception, but with Sakamoto busy and the blond presumed dead there hadn’t really been too much going on that could count as entertaining.

And someone like Katou was so very easily bored.

Deftly trying to ignore the blood-stained flowers in the garden, he let the other two lead to the kitchen of the manor, where baking utensils had already been gathered and prepared. Feeling a little more at ease - especially now that the chainsaw was out of sight - Katou dumped the bag of spices on the table-top and fished out two smaller bags containing vanilla shoots and some raw cinnamon.

“Hope these’ll do,” he commented after nodding to Kira’s explanation of how savvy they were at baking cake. The last time he had done similar was probably a decade ago, on some boring afternoon with his sister. Or in cooking classes. But it had never seemed too difficult, even then. “Can’t say I know too much about this stuff, but I think you’ll need to boil ‘em before using.” He added, sniffing a rod of vanilla and lifting himself up to sit casually on the table. There was a vague memory of Sae doing the like when they had run out of essence once. But then again, he could be wrong.
