Giovanni was able to tell Luki was near long before she had found him. The skin around his collar had begun to tingle, a low, dull thrum cold and tight against the back of his neck. It was a clear sign that there was a dog somewhere near, and closing fast, and the familiarity of the feeling gave Giovanni the slightest bit of comfort in this strange, backwards place. When he finally heard her small shrill voice calling out over the sound of the ocean, he turned, pausing only slightly as his instincts flared red for a second ( ... )

Luki giggled in a strange manner, her childlike innocence showing through as she advanced on the blond man. "Because I was all the way in the jungle, silly, and I had to come allll~ the way over here!" She grinned. In her mind, the voice went on. It never ended. It kept telling her to kill him, making her head throb gently and she slowly began to comply with it.

"I hope you weren't waiting too long, Big Brudder~!" She said, a sing-song tune in her voice that normally wasn't there unless she were about to do something horrible. Like a game.

She brushed her hair out of here eyes, and then there was a clanking sound from her sleeve. Her knives were moving, evidently. Almost as soon as the sound stopped, she had shifted in her stance and held the largest of the knives out at Giovanni, an inch from the flesh of his throat. "You're here just in time, Big Brudder! I want to play a very fun game." The twisted smile on her face told nothing but the fact that there was something mortifying going on in her mind.

"Dammit," Giovanni whispered under his breath and pushed himself backwards, away from Luki. Now that she was near, he could see her more clearly and Giovanni realized that his instinct had been right all along. It was as if Luki was both herself and not -- all of her body language, the tone of her voice, it was all still Luki, but the smell. The smell of her was all wrong -- spoiled, almost rotten, and bitter enough to taste in the back of his mouth ( ... )

Luki looked down at Giovanni, another soft giggle leaving her lips. He really hadn't noticed! Oh, this was going to be so much fun. She'd never played a game with her Big Brother, before. And now she was going to get the chance!

She pressed the blade a little harder into the others neck, the sharp metal drawing blood. The smell of the blood reached her nose and it excited her. She had not been able to indulge in her little games at all since coming here. No one would play with her! But Big Brother would. She would make him.

A childish gasp, and she stared down at him when he cursed at her. "My, my, big brudder, you have a naughty mouth!" She scolded, tilting her head to the side with a sweet smile.

And then, her little game was on. She raised the knife high, away from the bleeding throat, and in one swift movement, she swung it at his side, fully intending to make him bleed.

Giovanni hated not having an enclosed space to fight in. In a room, or a hallway, he'd use the floor and the walls for leverage, but out here on the stretching dunes, there was no where to hide or find balance. Fighting against the sluggishness that seemed to weaken all his muscles, he forced a roll one side in order to avoid the hard slice of Luki's main blade. He was bleeding -- could smell that metallic edge of fresh blood on his neck and on her knife -- and pain blossomed at his throat, causing an adrenaline surge to spike through in his system. It was like throwing on a kill switch inside Giovanni; in his veins, his dog began howling for violence ( ... )

Unlike Giovanni, Luki seemed to do just fine in the wide space. There was more room to run and just be free. She could attack as she pleased without thinking or worrying about a confined space. She was free to clown around.

She let out a strangled cry when his leg hit the side of her head, and she fell to the sand and rolled a few feet away from him before she pushed herself to her feet. Oh, now her head was pounding. She knew if she wasn't careful, he would break her, and Luki couldn't have that happening.

"Many, many things, Big brudder~" She said, tilting her head to the side as one of her ears twitched. "You should come with me, Big Brudder~ This is much better than being a dog, you know." She grinned nearly ear to ear, eyes wide before she lunged out at Giovanni again. This time, she went for his other side, and dove past him. Her large dagger sliced through his jacket, though she didn't catch if she got blood or not. She hit the ground again and rolled ( ... )

At first there was nothing, merely the cool whisper of Luki's blade as it cut through linen and silk, but quickly pain followed, spreading warm from the opening wound, sending another jolting shockwave through Giovanni's system. He didn't have time to flinch, however, as Luki lunged forward again, her teeth bared and her blade brandished, the dark mirth shimmering in her eyes ( ... )

Luki let out a large shriek as she was flung across the beach by her tail. She hit the ground with a yelp and rolled to the side, before pushing herself up to her feet. "Oww, that hurt, big brudder..." She winced, using her weapon-free hand to rub at the small of her spine where the tail sprouted out from her flesh.

She huffed when Giovanni pulled his gun out at her. Her cheeks puffed out, and she looked almost comical for a moment. Like a child being denied their candy from a parent. "Jeeeze, big brudder, you don't need to get your guns out; I can make this quick, yanno!" She laughed, beginning to circle around him. Her knives dragged against the sandy beach beneath her.

Another giggle left her.

"I'v enever played a game with you before, Big brudder. I hope you can run fast! This would be sooo much better if Noki were here..." She trailed off, looking up at the sky before she grinned and turned her head to look back at Giovanni with a devious grin.

The easiest thing, Giovanni figured, was to wound her in the arm or the leg -- force to stumble or drop her knife, though he knew beyond her huge blade Luki still carried dozens of smaller ones for throwing. He eyed her carefully, gun drifting towards her throwing arm, when suddenly she dodged, lightning quick. He fired several times, trying to track her, but his aim was not enough for her newly acquired cat-like reflexes. Several bullets missed their mark, creating a trail pockmarks in the sand. One however, managed to graze her, catching her shoulder and once again throwing her backwards. What she had in agility, she lacked in power, and Giovanni took advantage of that, holstering his weapon and grabbing for her throat with both hands as she fell.

Lifting Luki upwards, he shook her fiercely as she dangled from his grip slightly dazed, a grimace of delight twisting his face. As he shook her, some of her blades clattered from her grip, falling into the soft ground below. "Now, now," Giovanni growled, squeezing her throat ( ... )

The wounds hurt. She had to admit that. He was going to break her if she didn't pick up the speed; even Luki could realize that. She gasped for air, struggling to breath before she suddenly bent her legs up and gave Giovanni a strong kick to his chest. It wretched her free, though not without suffering a bit of pain first. She landed back on her hands before she flipped herself back and stood, picking up her largest knife again.

"Who cares what mother says, big brudder?" She asked, and that should have been the final clue that she was not herself, and a silly grin crossed her lips before she suddenly lunged at him again. This time, Luki had a cat like grace to her movements, as opposed to the child-like sudden movements. She whipped a couple of the smaller knives at him, getting him in the gut with two of them, and missing the third. She gripped his shoulders hard, flipping herself over him, before she suddenly turned and gave him a rough kick in the back ( ... )

This, Giovanni thought, was an expected turn of events. Apparently the tail and the ears weren't the only thing about Luki that had changed. She was quicker now, and much more agile, and had been able to bend and move with a skill he had otherwise never seen in her before. As he lay there, sprawled across the sand, he could feel the ground beneath his body go warm and firm with the pooling of his blood. He previous injuries were merely dull aches now, relegated to the back of his mind, as his stomach screamed with heat and pain ( ... )

Luki let out a loud yelp when Giovanni suddenly tugged her out from where she stood on her feet. Oh, dear! And she almost had him, too. She pushed herself back up to her feet quickly, puffing her cheeks out. "It's not very nice to go tripping me up like that, big brudder," She scolded, as though she were the only one in the right in this situation. And yet, Luki was the one attacking him.

Luki let her last two remaining knives fall into her hands under the heavy sleeves. She smiled innocently, tilting her head to the side before she suddenly whipped them out at Giovanni from the depths of her sleeves. Both got him in the arm, and she lurched forward at him again. Instead of jumping over him this time, however, Luki went straight for his gut with the large knife, taking a heavy swing at him as though she had intentions to make his guts spill. She got him; jumping back to watch the blood seep through his shirt, though it was not as deep as she'd have liked.
