Character Name: Captain Isabela
Character Series: Dragon Age 2

Background:
Here is her quite comprehensive and useful wiki article. My Isabela is taken from the intervening years between Acts 2 and 3. She's been away from Hawke for a while, but they had been fast friends prior to her departure.
Personality: Having basically been sold off by her mother to become a captain's bride, Isabela has a special place on her hit list for slavers and sons of bitches. There are people she's fine with killing, but there is also a short list of people who just need to die. She shares this POV with assassins and smugglers and pirates of all walks of life. She's grateful to the man who killed her husband and let her rise to be the scourge of taverns and shorelines across Thedas--one Zevran Arainai.
"Our mistakes make us who we are."
As a proper pirate, Isabela is an opportunist. She won't hesitate to do something that's entirely outside of the law, ignoring social norms completely for profit and laughs. This free-spirited, devil-may-care attitude does get her into trouble quite frequently, but fortunately she's so laid back that she doesn't care how much trouble she's in... until her life is on the line. When that happens, she's a skilled and eager escape artist, willing to stab the backs of most anyone she's associated with, and even to run herself into worse (but different and more manageable!) trouble just to save her skin. Don't believe me? Just ask Hawke.
"It was always about you."
Her sense of self-preservation drew her to Hawke's side, and kept her there steadfastly. Hawke is one of the only people who has routinely kept Isabela from getting killed for her adventures in and around Kirkwall, and Isabela--opportunistically--decided that was the best health insurance ever. That reliability has Isabela a bit charmed (though it doesn't hurt that Hawke is an exceptional hottie), and brought her back from the brink of betrayal in the most unlikely guilt trip of its time.
"I like big boats, I cannot lie."
Isabela's truest desire is to grab a boat and get the heck out of Kirkwall, to head out for fun and profit with a full company of men. She's been tempted by a Desire demon with just such a thing, and tried to accept. She seems to simply flit between poor situations for the time being, trying to find a balance between profit and recreation. Sadly, it seems the most excitement to be had is at the side of the Champion of Kirkwall, so she keeps coming back to that rad bromance.
"Huh? Were you talking? I was still at 'whipped cream'."
Isabela is a jokester, always playing silly until the situation is dire. She enjoys frivolous things like nice clothes and big knives, and her most favored hobby seems to be harrassing her fellow companions. ...Well, okay. Her favorite hobby actually seems to be sex, but we're trying to stay classy here. Fact is, if she likes it, she'll probably try to hit it at least once. She's discriminating and discerning, of course, but she'll really try anything once. One of her favorite haunts is the Blooming Rose brothel, where she apparently knows a lot of people and has some sort of membership. She also favors taverns, where she gets drunk and occasionally brawls. She's not afraid to challenge anyone, no matter how big and tough they may seem. Her confidence in her dueling--and, in fact, her skill--is legendary.
"That's me. I'm a helper."
Within the group of companions, Isabela is a bit like the glue that keeps everyone together--and by together, I mean equally irritated at everyone instead of attuning animosity to one individual. This helps, I promise.
She is friends with Anders, seeing some of her own wit in his dry humor. She and Varric are hideous partners in crime, frequently speaking in extended entendres and trying to write lurid stories about the other companions and movers in the tale they've become entrenched in. She calls Merril "Kitten" and enjoys teaching her about the, ahem, finer things in life, including sex and romance like a proper sister. Aveline and Isabela share a delicious animosity wherein one calls the other every variant of "stick in the mud" and the other responds with "shut up, whore". It's very wholesome. She's attracted to Fenris, and shows more than once that the attraction lies on many levels--not that she'll pursue it any time soon, mind. But she looks out for him and never stops wheedling for a better position in his mind. Hawke's sister Bethany is one of her favorite targets for gentle teasing, along with Sebastian, and she enjoys trying to corrupt the more innocent and pure members of the group as some sort of hobby.
Abilities: Isabela is a sea captain, a rogue, a trained duelist (who happens to like dueling very, very much), and possibly one of the most varied and skilled lovers in all of Thedas. None of this is artificial, though--she's just that good with her hands.
