Ah, monthly update. How I miss thee.
During this fine month of December, there have been a few interesting events that have happened to me and/or Scott that are somewhat interesting. Here goes!
- We had a series of storms come every other day the weekend before Christmas. The Friday before, we had tons of snow, mostly the powdery stuff, and it was dead at the Superstore (Real CANADIAN Superstore) where I work. Of course, that was the day I had off. Still, that night Scott, his parents, and I made it out to Jim's Chinese Restaurant for the Simcoe Spring Service company dinner. Stuffing myself way past reason, we proceeded to go 5-pin bowling and tried our luck at an indoor glow-in-the-dark-light minigolf course. It was quite fun, unlike work the next day. It was so busy that even with every single checkout lane open, there were still long lines way past the tills. People were trying to get Christmas gifts and supplies purchased before the next big snow storm...
- ... Sunday. I was only supposed to work a four hour shift, and I got called at the last minute to see if I could bump it back a couple of hours. The problem was by then, it started to snow like crazy, and I just called to ask if I needed to come in after all. Thankfully, I didn't need to, and I enjoyed a blessed day off.
- Christmas was nice because Scott and I opened our presents to each other before we went to the in-laws' house to meet up with everyone else. I gave Scott two really nice Lego building sets (which we couldn't find anywhere in Canada or the States) as well as the Guinness Book of World Records. He gave me chocolate and a new surround sound system. :D
- Christmas at the in-laws' house was way more hectic with six kids under the age of 5, but we watched Sleeping Beauty with Amanda's girls. Alexis - the oldest - and Nina - the youngest girl - both sat on my lap to watch the last part of the movie. Quite cute really. We didn't stay long after we had lunch and opened our presents because it was way too crazy, and Scott and I needed some quite time. Still, it was nice seeing everyone together again.
- The day after the first big snowstorm, I cleaned off my car before work and noticed that snow had literally blown into my car. Obviously, the weather stripping was bad, and Scott called around the Pontiac dealerships to see if they had the parts. The dealership said they don't service vehicles more than ten years old (mine is a 1996 Grand Prix) and that there was nothing they could do. Scott did some more searching and found out the only way to get the weather stripping was to order it from Chicago, and the parts, the shipping, and installation somewhere would cost around $2000. Annoyed, he thought it was time to get rid of that car and look for a different one. This lead us into...
- ... tomorrow. After researching, test-driving, comparing prices, and shopping around, we plan to head to a used car dealership nearby and purchase a 2005 Toyota Matrix. It's bright red, which is not my first choice, but the silver-gray car at the local Toyota dealership - same make and model - was $2000 more than the red. With roughly the same mileage and the exact same features, I didn't need to spend $2000 for a paint job. We're going to test-drive the red one to make sure it drives like the silver, but I really like it so far. It turns on a dime! I'm actually sitting up with my feet nearly flat on the floor like a real chair! It has working A/C and Cruise Control! Now don't get me wrong - the Grand Prix was a great car for what I needed it for. I think the time has come for me to outgrow it. I need something more practical (4 doors!) and more useful (a hatchback!). Exciting!
So that's a quick rundown of all the things that have happened. I've been working so much during this holiday season that I haven't even done Christmas cards yet. Nor have a had time to wish everyone a Merry Christmas (Merry Christmas everyone!)
I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and will enjoy the new year!
starbuck92, hope you had a wonderful birthday!
Amusing anecdotes as well as kitteh and snow pictures to come. :D
