It was a nice day. Nicer by far than I anticipated. We went to Starbucks for lattes and knitting. We chose the one across the street from the LYS after deciding that the one attached to the bookstore down the street would be totally unaceptable due to the lack of funds that a book store would only make worse. One person approached to see what we were doing, though her husband drug her away quite quickly. Perhaps he thought she didn't need another hobby. I can relate. I was working on a hat for someone at work. She was starting fair isle sweater sleeves. After about an hour 3 ladies came over from the LYS and plunked down next to us. We considered going to said LYS but didn't because of a) really not public enough, b) likely overcrowding and c) previously mentioned lack of funds. It sucks to go in and visit with the professional enablers and walk out with the same amount of yarn you went into the store carrying. Anyway... We had about 2.5-3 hrs of knitting and chatting. In public. Duty fulfilled.
Sunday I went to work for my weekly torture. I played ping-pong ball and bounced back and forth between cheese and coffee all day. Someone called in sick for cheesy world and I helped with breaks, etc. At least the day went faster than usual. The other part time position I was thinking about applying for is no longer an option because they decided to combine it with recieving which requires lifting of large heavy objects-up to 75 lbs. Not happening!
On the up side I took an order last week from someone at work for a hat, like the ones I sell patterns for, like I was going to make for the team member art sale. I finished it, took it in AND got paid for it. Whoo Hoo! She showed it off and I have orders for 3 more. I had to purchase more yarn. I started the only one that I have the correct yarn colors for and ordered the rest last of the yarn as soon as I got home from work last night. I also ran into one of my favorite customers last night and gave her my etsy address. She is very interested and supportive. I even gave her the desperate I have to sell this stuff to make my bills now...I have no choice, can't live on what I'm making in wages even after I start the new job.
So to help spread the word, I am making hats and business cards this week. The business cards will have a hole punched in one corner and attatched to the articles to be sold by a string. Maybe not original but it will work. I can do something fancier later.
I also came up with some new ideas for stuff I would like to make during my commute home. Whee. I am just a cyclone of creative energy the last 48 hours.
