Saturday was tree trimming day. I was worried that we'd waited too long to trim and we'd kill the trees, but we were re-assusred by our local nursery/gardening expert that the particular trees that we waited to deal with would be hard to kill so go ahead and trim.
We still have some trimming left to do, but its minimal. Once that is finished we need to beg, borrow or steal a chipper/shredder to run it all through in order to get fresh mulch for all the beds around the house, including the new raised garden bed.
Sunday was painting day.
20 minutes to make meatloaf to stick in oven at 5pm
30 minutes assembling supplies
1 hour taping and draping
1 hour painting the ceiling
20 minute break for phone calls and a snack
3.5 hours paiting the walls with texture paint.
I tried the texture roller and hated it. Really bad coverave and it would have taken three times the amount of paint that I actually had, not to mention that I had forgotten how many narrow wall spaces there are in that bathroom.
I ended up with the following technique which worked quite well:
1. Slap a generous amount of paint in corners and along taped edges.
2. Slather a thick layer of paint on 3'x3' section of wall. Dip paintbrush in paint again and wipe most paint on the side of the can, then slap the side of the brush on the wall repeatedly, trying not to make it look like a pattern.
3. Repeat step 2 on an adjoining section of wall.
4. Go back to the section completed in step 2 and make gentle swipes in varying directions with a putty knife. I used a 3" knife. I have been told to use several different sizes of knife for a better effect, but I like how this turned out.
5. Repeat steps 2-4 until its all done.
The color is a lovely mint green that valspar calls "Aquatic Edge" I need to do a final coat of enamel in the same color because I hate the texture and I don't think that it will hold up to moisture. It feels like chalk or like wall mud, which is very unpleasant to the touch.
Later this week we will go get the rest of the paint required. Should be fun!
