Title: Rooftop Rant
Pairing: Nishikido Ryo/Ueda Tatsuya
Disclaimer: I own nothing but my own weird imagination :d
Warning: All the characters were totally opposite with the real character of these JE boys. And yes, Ryo is older than Tatsuya in this fiction. The content of this story can be disturbing to some, so feel free to stop reading if you don’t like it >:p
A/N1: This is an adaptation from one of my fav novel/writing Hlovate's Rooftop Rant. The writing is so inspiring that I can't help but keep reading it over and over again. Then I thought it would be nice if I can write a different version of it. It might be a bit similar but as the story goes, I'll try to write it in a different way. So here I am :')
A/N2: I love Ryoda a lot but I’ve never write anything about this pairing. So I thought it’s about time for me to write Ryoda fiction. Since I’m very much new to this writing and LJ thing, be easy on me please? *puppy eyes attacks*

CHAPTER 7 - WHO KNEW
“Ryo”
“Hmm” Tatsuya titled his head to the left, then to his right where Ryo was sitting. Ryo didn’t care and Tatsuya was already used to it. It wasn’t something new to him. Ryo will ignore anything and anyone when his fingers started to dance on the sketchbook.
“Are you depressed?” Ryo stopped drawing for a moment, giving Tatsuya a quick glance before brought back the pencil to the sketchbook.
“What?”
Tatsuya brought his knees together and put his chin on them, eyes travelled far to the high and blue sky above. “I don’t know much about art, but people say that drawings will either represent what the artist wants in his life or what he actually feels” Ryo felt that Tatsuya still had so much to tell.
“And your drawings are always about something dark and dull. Are you depressed?” he asked again.
Ryo sighed, it sounded heavy. “What do you think?”
“I don’t know” Tatsuya shrugged. “But I think you were drawing what you’re actually felt” Neither of them gave each other a look. The conversation felt good just like this.
“For someone who claimed didn’t know much about art, you surely know a lot” Ryo chuckled and Tatsuya replied with a mocking grin. “Maybe you’re right” Ryo continued. “If my life is perfect, I wouldn’t be here…” this time Ryo decided to look at Tatsuya. “…right?”
“Maybe” Tatsuya shrugged. “Why are you here?”
Ryo flipped a new empty page, ready to draw a new picture; a picture of his life, his heart, his feeling. “And why are you here?” Fingers started to draw a straight line on the paper.
“I…” Tatsuya paused for a while, tried to reason out why he came here. “…want to escape from the truth, reality, life?”
Ryo nodded. “Un”
Tatsuya knew what Ryo was trying to tell him. “Both of us trying to escape from reality for a different reason”
Ryo exhaled a deep breathe. “You’re bored because of the deficit attention; I’m bored because of the endless comparison. You badly wish that somebody cares about you; same for me” Ryo’s face didn’t show any expression. Motionless. “Nobody cares what I want in my life, my interest, nobody just cares” there was sadness in that voice and Tatsuya just kept in silent.
“Being in the middle of high achievers isn’t that great. It’s tiring when you have to deal with something that looks great to everyone, yet you couldn’t do anything to reach that level”
“Did they go to the moon?” Tatsuya asked, batting his eyelashes innocently. And Ryo felt like smacking Tatsuya’s head but he just couldn’t.
“What age are you? 5?” instead he pinched Tatsuya’s nose and laughed. “How can they go to the moon? You’re talking like a small kid” Ryo continued to laugh.
“Then, why does it matter to you? The way you talk about them like they were some kind of super genius or something” Tatsuya pouted and rubbed his abused nose. “They might be high achievers, in their respective field. But you can do the same right? Be the high achiever in the field you can be an expert. Prove it to them”
“It’s not that simple” Ryo leaned against the wall. He had stopped drawing since the last few minutes. “No matter how much I wanted to prove myself, it’s getting even difficult. But I don’t want to give up, especially not now” Tatsuya remained in silent.
This was the first time Ryo talked about his misery. Usually Tatsuya was the one who complained and whined a lot. Ryo was fine with just being a good listener. Somehow Tatsuya felt that there was so much he didn’t know about Ryo. But Ryo was surely known a lot about him already. And yet I keep thinking that I’m the unluckiest person in the world.
“What about you? What are you going to do after you finished your high school?”
“Eh? Urm, I don’t know” Tatsuya mumbled quietly.
“Haven’t you thought about it yet?”
“Nope. Nobody cares anyway”
Ryo smiled. He had expected that kind of answer from Tatsuya. “What is your interest?”
Tatsuya shrugged, again. “I have no idea at all”
“You must think of something already”
“I don’t know. No one ever asked about it before, so I never give a damn about it”
“I’m asking you right now” Ryo fixed his gaze in Tatsuya’s pretty face and Tatsuya looked up, staring at the sky like he was searching for an answer between the heavy clouds above.
“What do you think I can be in future?” then he turned to look at Ryo who was still watching him.
“Tailor?”
“What the heck?” he punched Ryo playfully who was laughing like crazy.
“It’s your fault!” Ryo was still laughing. “Why are you asking me anyway? How should I know what your interest is” Tatsuya pouted some more.
Then Tatsuya rolled his eyes; his lips formed a small smile. “I want to be….” he looked at Ryo and grinned. Ryo raised his eyebrow, waiting for Tatsuya to finish his words. “Don’t laugh at me!” Tatsuya gave Ryo a warning.
Ryo smiled mockingly. This kid must have a very outrageous dream in his mind. “What if I laugh?”
“I’ll punch you till you can’t get up”
Ryo laughed again. “Just tell me already. What do you want to be?”
“I want to be a singer, a rock singer like Gackt or Gazette. I want to throw my feelings through singing. I want to scream, I want to shout, I want to let out everything through my own lyrics and singing”
“Why?” Ryo asked. He didn’t expect that from Tatsuya at all.
“I don’t know. Maybe…” Tatsuya couldn’t find the answer within him.
“You don’t know” Ryo shifted a bit, closing the gap between him and Tatsuya. “Actually you just wanted to show your protest. You just wanted to go against the world”
“You think so?” Ryo nodded and Tatsuya looked down. He had never been a good boy before. He did everything on his own. He took pills, he skipped school and his tuition classes, he got into a fight, and no one ever cared about it. No one ever told him that it was wrong; no one ever told him that he should stop doing what he was doing now. That’s why he never thought of what he did till now was the way of showing some protest. He didn’t mean it that way. It just no one ever cared. Mom, dad; they never asked him anything about his well being. They didn’t care if he didn’t go to school, they didn’t give a shit whether he went to tuition class or not, they didn’t even go to school for teacher-parent meeting; they never did. When he got suspended from school for a week because he fought with his classmate, his parents never asked him why he was at home during days and leisurely hanging around the house.
“…ya?” Ryo’s voice brought him back to where they were. Tatsuya turned his head to the right. Ryo was so sitting so close to him.
“Huh?”
Ryo shook his head, lips forming a small smile. “You’re surely daydreaming a lot. I asked you, have you eaten yet?”
“Eat what?” Tatsuya was still in daze. His mind was kind of blurry.
“Sugar” Ryo replied patiently. “Have you?”
“Ah..” Tatsuya hurriedly grabbed his backpack and pulled out a bar of Vochelle from it. “Want some?” like always, he asked.
“No, thanks” and like always, Ryo declined.
And like always, Ryo never stopped taking care of Tatsuya. It was funny, Tatsuya thought. His parents had never asked about his sugar supply but Ryo had never missed to ask every time they met on this rooftop. Tatsuya smiled in his heart. Maybe he’s afraid that he had to bring me down from this rooftop to the hospital again.
“Tatsuya”
“Urm” Tatsuya was biting the chocolate, bit by bit.
“Keep eating okay” Ryo slowly brought his fingers back onto the canvas, carefully drawing a few more lines on it. Tatsuya smiled widely. Days were getting better, for both of them.
*****
Later that night.
He smiled politely as waiting for the customers to go through the menu. And when they looked up to order their foods, Ryo gave a full attention as he write their orders on a piece of paper in his hand and kept smiling. Done, he bowed politely, excused himself before went back to the counter and put the orders there. He turned around and scanned the restaurant. It was full with customers and looked lively tonight. Tatsuya wouldn’t want to be in this kind of place. Ryo smiled in his heart. Now that he thought of it, he wondered what Tatsuya was doing at this hour at night. Is he still staying up and listening to UVERworld again? And still dreaming of becoming a rock singer?
“Nishikido-san, here are the orders for table 6” Ryo turned around and quickly took the plates on the tray.
“Hai” and made his way to the said table. Tatsuya, I’ll see you tomorrow.
