A/N: Instead of finishing my multi-chapter fiction, I came out with one shot on RyoDa. I wasn’t thinking much when I wrote this, I just need to write something. This turned out crappy and I apologize for that. Anyway, it feels great to be able to be here again~ XoXo
A six-year-old Tatsuya was running at his full speed, despite how difficult it was for his two small legs to pass through the thick snow on the road. He didn’t care at how many times he had to stop because his shoes came off or how difficult for him to see to road when the scarf around his neck sometimes covered his eyes when he fell. He only wanted to go to that certain place, a place where he already saw his best friend was making a snow-man with his father.
“Ryo-chan! Ryo-chan!” he shouted when he thought his best friend was close enough to hear his voice. The said friend turned his head, beaming with smile as he saw Tatsuya ran towards him.
“Tat- - - awww, be careful!” Ryo’s eyes widened in horror when he watched Tatsuya stumbled on his feet and half of his small body practically covered with the snow. Ryo heard Tatsuya’s soft muffle and he hurriedly ran to help Tatsuya.
“What’s with the rush?” Ryo rolled his eyes while patting Tatsuya’s back to get the snow off from his clothes once he helped Tatsuya to stand back on his feet. But the exciting Tatsuya totally ignored the slightly feeling of pain from the fell and the dust on his clothes when he grabbed Ryo’s right arm and shook it vigorously.
“Ne ne, I have something to tell you. You must listen to me Ryo-chan” Tatsuya was looking at his friend with his shining eyes that full with hope and Ryo was no one to reject that kind of request coming from Tatsuya.
“Hai, I’ll listen. Nani?” Ryo gave Tatsuya the same look, as trying to assure Tatsuya that he won’t ignore whatever things the latter wanted to tell him.
“Now I know what I want to be when I grow up” Tatsuya was still wearing the same hopeful look on his face and Ryo furrowed his eyebrows.
“What do you mean?”
“Just now, Hiroshi-san came to my house. He told me that he has a very great job. You know, he can fly!” Tatsuya was half yelling and his eyes grew bigger.
“He’s a bird?” there was this disturbing look on Ryo’s face like he was feeling frustrated for not clearly getting what Tatsuya was trying to tell him.
Tatsuya pondered for a moment, biting his finger nail while wearing a confused look on his face. “I don’t remember him saying he’s a bird. Ano, is bird some kind of job?”
“No, no!” Ryo shook his head. “I don’t think bird is a job. But...I don’t know. Should we ask my father?” and Tatsuya nodded almost in instant. Then Ryo quickly pulled Tatsuya by his arm toward his father who was making the snow man for Ryo.
“Father, can we ask something?”
Ryo’s father stopped what he was doing and turned to look at the two small kids who were staring intently at him. He smiled. “Yes dear. What is it?”
Ryo switched his gaze toward Tatsuya and motioned him to ask the question. Tatsuya quickly spoke up. “Ano, is bird a job?”
Ryo’s father let out a chuckle before he bent down his body and patted Tatsuya softly on his head. “Iie. Bird is not a job. Bird is an animal. Why?”
“Because Hiroshi-san said he has a great job. He can fly in the sky” Tatsuya pouted cutely, making a little note in his head not to talk to Hiroshi-san anymore the next time he met his neighbour.
“And bird can fly” Ryo quickly added, nodding his head with full of confidence.
“Yes, bird can fly. But Hiroshi-san is not a bird. I think he’s a pilot, no?” he looked at Tatsuya and smiled. “Hiroshi-san flies with aeroplane right, from country to country”
Tatsuya blinked his eyes. “I think, yes. So Hiroshi-san is a pilot. I want to be a pilot too!” Tatsuya now was beaming with excitement, throwing his both hands up in the air and shouted “Fly” and “Pilot” a few times. Then he jumped on Ryo who was watching him and asked him a question. “So, what Ryo-chan wants to be?”
“I want to be like my father” Ryo answered without giving a second thought.
“What is your father’s job?
“A husband”
“What is a husband doing?”
“Marry my mother” Ryo smiled in triumph but Tatsuya was full with confusion.
“So, you want to marry who?”
“You”
“Is it fun?”
“It looks fun”
“So, what you will be doing then?”
“I don’t know. See, my father. Every morning he goes to work and kisses my mother. When he comes back from home he kisses my mother again. And at night he sleeps with my mother, even I can’t sleep with my mother anymore. I guess that’s what I have to do if I become a husband”
Tatsuya fell into silence for a moment before he fixed his gaze back on Ryo. “It sounds fun”
“Ne~” this time, Ryo was the one who beaming happily with a big smile plastered all over his face.
“Demo, if you become like your father you can’t do your job because I fly in the sky. Who will you kiss and sleep at night?”
“Oh!” Ryo was looking a little bit disappointed before his eyes suddenly lit up and he grabbed Tatsuya by his shoulders.
“I know! You change your what-you-want-to-be-when-you-grow-up or whatever the adults call it. You can be like my mother! A wife! You don’t want to leave me right”
Tatsuya blinked his eyes. Suddenly he felt sad upon hearing the word ‘leave’. Ryo-chan was his best friend. They promised to be best friends forever and always be together. Ryo-chan was also nice to him, always help him and care about him to the extent he didn’t know what to do if Ryo-chan wasn’t around. If he became pilot, it meant that he had to leave Ryo-chan. Leaving Ryo-chan, leaving his best friend. It sounded so wrong in Tatsuya’s mind. He looked up, staring at Ryo with his big brown eyes and beaming with smile.
“Hai! Tat-chan will not become a pilot then! Tat-chan will be a wife!”
“Yatta!!” Ryo jumped around like he got a full basket of candy. Tatsuya was all smiling beside him. This felt right.
Ryo’s father who was listening to the conversations exchanged between the two little kids can only shook his head and smiled. He continued to make the snow man he promised to Ryo. He heard some giggles. From the corner of his eyes, he saw the two angles in his life were now having snow war in the cold season. Somehow, he felt warm in his heart.
