Recovering from a 21-day Adventure

Since the last time I posted I've been places.

The first day of school came and went. I didn't attend this year. It's my first year of "retirement". I don't like to say that word too loudly for fear that it will make me sound old... which I AM NOT (a somewhat sensitive topic).

On the first teacher day this year, instead of attending an inservice with my former colleagues, I spend a few days in North Wildwood (NJ shore) with a friend who also retired in June. We sat on the beach and walked on the boardwalk and went out to dinner. We DID NOT go to an inservice. I took a photo of us on the beach and emailed it to several of our former colleagues who were attending an inservice. They took it well except for one who called us "jerks". LOL.

I came home from Wildwood wondering how my life would now change. I didn't really feel "retired".

For days I worked on my jewelry, taking photos of some items and listing them on my Etsy shop. I read a couple of books. I read magazines. I wrote. I watched daytime television. I played computer games. I cooked. I cleaned. I walked. I even went to the gym a few times.

Then came "the trip".

My husband has been chomping at the bit to get me to go on a travel "vacation" with him. He retired two years ago and has been waiting for this. I didn't want to go away, yet, but I caved. We planned, packed, and on October 12 we got into the car and left NJ. I called it our "21-day Adventure". Yes, we were away from home for 21 days. This is somewhat difficult for a homebody like me but in looking back, I mostly had a good time.

I chronicled parts of our trip on Facebook. We began our adventure with a ferry to Tangier Island, VA, in the Chesapeake Bay, which I think would be a great place for a fall writers' retreat. The next day we ferried back to the mainland and drove to the Outer Banks, NC. Our next stop was Ocracoke Island, then Oak Island, NC, then Savannah, GA, Jacksonville, FL, and then to Venice, FL (visiting my parents). We made a few more stops in Florida and then back to Savannah (visiting our niece, her husband, and baby), and finally HOME on day 21. Whew!

I'm now recovering from the trip. I'm back to where I was in September: wondering how my life will change now that I'm not teaching anymore.

I still don't feel retired. I guess I'm in transition. :-)
