Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Syria: MASS MEDIA PERVERTED OUR PREVIOUS STATEMENT
Previously the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs presented a statement in which it accused the mass media of planning the anti-syrian campaign aimed to prepare the international public opinion for the military intervention in Syria under the pretense of fear that Syria could use mass destruction weapons. But as the mass media called this statement “a confession of Syria that it has got these weapons” the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs had to react at it. The Ministry explained that the previous statement was made to put the world's public attention to the fact that there had been efforts to accuse Syria in using bacteriological weapons against the terrorist groups, peaceful citizens or giving it to the third side because it could be a reason for the military intervention in the country. The Syrian officials strongly oppose to these efforts and false accusations and it can't ignore them in mass media as their sources are certain foreign groups which from the beginning of Syrian crisis are pushing up the idea of military intervention and had already spread the false information about Iraq having such weapons which became the reason of Iraqi overrun. The Ministry proposed that any reports on this topic must be made with all possible accuracy, neutrality and professional ethics. Earlier Jihad Makdessi, the official representative of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Syria answering the question about certain events in the districts of Damascus said that one needs to understand that to guard the peaceful Syrian people the Syarian army carry counter-terrorist operations in Damascus and the situation is changing to the better. He also noted that those who bear arms must understand that there will be the answer of the government but those who are ready to make a dialogue will be met peacefully. Makdessi said that the Western mass media call what's happening in the Syrian capital “A great battle for Damascus”. Thus they must understand that battle and attack are to be faced , that's why, - he explained, - the purpose of the Syrian army's operations is to provide safe life of the citizens in the capital. Answering the question about the results of Arabian Ministry's committee in Doha which was hold upon the changing of Annan's mission and peaceful transfer of power in Syria Makdessi said that these topics were out of the committee's competence. Those who were present at it only expressed their opinions which showed their political hypocrisy, said Makdessi. Also he added that statements made in Qatar upon the succession of power in Syria were rude interfering in domestic affairs of the sovereign state, and this state was also among the founders of League of Arab States .Makdessi called the attitude of League of Arab States towards Syria unethical. “Only Syrians can define the fate of the Syrian President and the Syrian Government”, said he. He also said, that if the Arabian countries are interested in stopping the violence in Syria, they need to stop helping and financing the terrorists and misinforming in mass media. Answering the question about the Russian diplomat's statement made in Paris Makdessi said that the meaning of the statement should be asked of the diplomat.
“Syria agreed upon the beginning of political process under the conditions of the Annan's plan which was supported by all members of the Security Council and we also agreed upon the results of the conference in Geneva, and we are going to follow all the conditions” said Makdessi. When he was asked if there was a connection between the future visit of the American Minister of Defence in Israel and possible attack of the Israeli army at the Syrian objects he answered that such visit made in such difficult time is of course made for coordination and is hostile to Syria.
