While going through SG-1 for the first time, it did take me a little while to realize that Space was showing the syndication at three convenient times (morning, where I could catch 15 minutes before I went to work, early evening, where I'd usually come home from a day shift 15 minutes into the episode, and later at night, which ultimately became my failsafe and way to relax when work got crazy and I was working a lot of evening shifts). The result was that while watching The First Commandment and Cold Lazarus, I discovered that I'd only ever seen the back half of the first, and to my shock (and yours)... I'd never actually seen Cold Lazarus

For First Commandment, I'll just say that as a "get to know Sam" episode, the fact that she was once engaged to a crazy guy never, ever seems to come into play again in the series, and nor is it missed. I wasn't crazy about the episode - found that it didn't really keep my attention - but its an interesting starting point for Sam's character. You know that later season Sam would have reacted to the whole situation differently. Not that I think she'd kill whatshisname flat out, but she probably would have shot him in the leg, then radioed the team who would have been in on the whole plan.

Now. Cold Lazarus. I found myself a little numb and shocked after this episode. The information that was given wasn't actually new. I knew that Jack had had a wife, and they separated after the incident with Charlie, and that Jack being Jack didn't talk about it and didn't talk to his ex. The way it was presented, however, captivated me, especially because I was seeing it at this point, knowing how far Jack would progress from this point. My throat caught at the moment in the briefing room when Jack leaped to the phone, and then all but ran out the door. Visually, I also found the episode stunning. I do remember seeing bits of it before, probably in teasers or "previously's", but it was just gorgeous to see them do something different like that.

I'd mentioned to a couple people that the first time I watched the series (while also being introduced to the post-RDA series), I'd been a bit ambivalent towards Jack/RDA, or at least, didn't completely understand the all out worship of him I've seen in so much of the fandom. I think now I do, or at least why Jack/RDA captured the attention of so many back in the early days of the series. Its altered the way I'll look at him.

Now, off to watch The Nox, which I definitely do remember watching before.
