Last night, my cousin's husband hung himself. She found him in the middle of the night. They have 2 young boys, one 4 or so, and one less than a year.
I can't even imagine what that feels like. What do you do when you see the love of your life hanging there, dead? How do you move? How do you reach for the phone? How do you get your voice to work? How do you tell your little boy what's happened the next day? What words do you use? My impression is of an endless moment where life just stops. There's nothing else beyond that point.
Please don't sympathize with me or tell me how sorry you are. I don't deserve it or need it. I wasn't terribly close to him, although I was fond of him. He was a genuinely nice person, and always made an effort to talk to me and get to know me, even though I don't always fit in with the rest of my family. If you feel you need to express sympathy or condolences, send good thoughts/positive energy/prayers/whatever floats your boat to my cousin and her boys. I doubt it would make an impact, but if you need to, channel your thoughts toward them.
It's not fair that those little boys will grow up without a father.
