I realized that I haven't posted anything to lj in forever and a day. Anyway, CA was fantastic. Saw my sister and her husband and my nephew. Went to Napa and did some wine tasting. Stayed for a night in San Fran and ate at a fantastic Brazilian restaurant. Stayed with some family just outside Sacramento. While Sacramento is one of the most boring places I've ever been, it was lovely to see my mom's cousin Doug, his wife, and their kids. They're awesome, fun people.
Then there was a month of student teaching. I was at Bright Horizons, a private preschool, and overall, I'd say it was a pretty good experience. It helps that I got a fantastic mentor teacher. She was actually younger than me by a couple years, and while I was a little weirded out about that at first, it actually turned out to be a good thing, because I was waaaaay more comfortable talking to her and socializing with her. She was very supportive and gave me some great advice. Seriously, she was better at being a mentor teacher than my previous teacher during my internship, who'd had 15 years of experience in education. Not that she'll ever read this, but Ashleigh, you're the best. <3
Ohhhhh but it was rough finding time to get everything done while I was teaching. With the prep work and all the other homework and reading for my classes, it was literally like working 2 full time jobs at the same time. Talk about stress. I really had no social life because every spare moment was spent trying to get my homework done. But now it's over! Hurrah!
Today is my last day of freedom before I go back to work. Wednesday is our all staff training for Kids Club, followed by the beginnings of prepping our site for school. I'll be working from 7:30-5:00, yaaaaaay. Thursday and Friday are more prep work, then on Monday, school starts! I'm excited to meet my new batch of kindergartners, especially since one of the little girls who I taught over the summer will be with me! Also, my internship this semester is with one of the kindergarten teachers at Cielo, so I'll get to see some of my kids in the classroom as well. Pretty exciting. :)
Today- take a shower/get dressed/blow dry hair, call the help desk to get TK20 sorted out (the system we use to upload all our student teaching materials- it says I can't submit my field experience binder because my timecard isn't attached.... even when I'm looking right at it), return unwanted things to Ross and Target, return library books and get my account sorted out (apparently I left my library card there. They were kind enough to send it back to me, but froze my account until I can come in and unfreeze it), do some laundry, put clean clothes away, pick Doryen up from work and go out to a lovely dinner at some yet-to-be-determined location, make myself something to take for breakfast in the morning, go to bed early to get up at 7am (possibly earlier).
