Tokyo, Day One, part one

Dec 31, 2010 00:02

I finally got (half) my pictures uploaded from my trip!

Day One:

Got up pretty early (6:30) to get ready and catch a bus to Kobe.  This is Slopey.  He takes us from the bus station to the bus stop on the expressway.  Once in Kobe, we grabbed some tickets on hopped on a shinkansen (bullet train) to Tokyo.  The tickets were expensive, but the shinkansen was soooo nice.  It had electrical outlets (so I spent pretty much the entire time on my iPhone trying to play mafia  XD), and was super super quiet.  It barely felt like we were moving at all, except for the fact that I could tell the train car was pressurized because my ears kept popping.

We took the shinkansen into Shinagawa station, specifically because we wanted to eat at the Outback Steakhouse in the area. This was a recurring theme. Don't judge. Do you realize how difficult that kind of food is to find in Japan? It is the only place in this country I have ever seen blue cheese dressing. And I love blue cheese dressing.

Anyway, after we had eaten, we still couldn't check into our room yet, so we hopped on a local train to Akihabara.

Honestly, Akihabara was a little disappointing considering it's reputation. I blame the time of day. We did find a nice gaming store, though!

After we finished walking around there, we headed to Asakusa, the district where we were staying.

Um. Yeah. No one else knows what that thing is either.

Where we stayed:

After dropping off our bags (finally!) we went to Senso-ji, a Buddhist temple in the area.

Oh, haha, This was originally going to be both days one and two, but, uh, I didn't even get through day one. :D

I have a handful of more pictures from day one I'll try to post later today!
