The Good, the Bad, and the WTF?

It's the time of year again, school has started and I predict just how screwed I'll be this time. Eh, this one is hard to call, it's been an interesting first day. Chronological order ahead!

EAE 129 - Aircraft Stability - This class is basically as cool as it sounds. The professor is DAMN good. He's hard though, but he explains things so clearly it doesn't really matter. I'm really looking forward to what's to come this quarter...minus waking up at 6:30...

EME 152 - Computer Aided Mechanism Design - The material of this class seems interesting, the professor is just as bad as the reviews made him out to be though. They didn't, however, emphasize enough how BAD his accent really is. I sat in his class for an hour attempting to guess what he was saying, apparently "online" is pronounced "on-na." He also did something I've NEVER seen a professor EVER do at Davis. He ACTUALLY went though the syllabus. It was like I was transported into the past and arrived at SC all over again. (Most professors mention the syllabus and say to read it on your own time or if they do talk about it, it's only for 5 minutes.) Needless to say, I almost fell asleep on the first day (never happened before). Also, he uses a program for the class that he created for a private company. I DESPISE it when professors teach us about their own research, especially when we're going to have HW on it and ESPECIALLY when it's not really used in the industry. My friend in the class mentioned that she took the professor before and only had horrible things to say about him. So, I'm not sure I'll continue taking this class or not.

PHE 001 - Hapkido - Dude. Seriously. Do a barrel roll! I was kinda scared to start this class (I've never taken a martial arts after all) and always felt people kinda looked silly doing it. This class is UBER fun though, and definitely will make you sweat. We got partners today that we'll be working with for the next few weeks. Ends up, I got assigned a deaf person! I see this as advantageous because I've started to pick up signs from Baby Signing Time and this will give me the motivation I need to continue to learn. It's a bit odd working with an interpreter. I heard it's rude to speak to the interpreter and not directly to the person, but I find that it's kind of difficult as well. Anyone know a good YouTube resource or an adult equivalent to Baby Signing Time? But yeah, class is SUPER fun.

EME 106 - Thermofluids - Fuck me. This professor is also pretty bad, he also actually went through the syllabus as well. I'm starting to think that at Davis if you have a professor that reads the syllabus, you're going to have a bad prof. The professor admitted that this was only the 2nd time teaching the class, and that the first time didn't go so well. At least he's honest with himself, right? Class is structured very similarly to my Thermo class (the one I kept complaining about...a lot). Only difference is that the final is not work 75% of our grade. *phew* That's because this professor actually has a midterm! Wooot! Went over basic review today...but if it wasn't review, I don't know how well I would have understood him... Class was packed too. Stupid Davis only made a 80 person course for a class that is required by EVERY mech-e, areo, and materials guy. Let's just say, half the class wasn't registered and was trying to get in, and the other half was standing/sitting in the aisles. I'm anticipating (much like last quarter) that we'll end up moving to a larger lecture hall (I REALLY hope not MED SCI C, it's really far away and I have Hapkido right before it).

That's it for today! I still have Lifetime Fitness, Circuits II, and Science and Society (Global Warming) to go! SAS is an "extra" class just in case I end up dropping 152. I'll make my decision by next week.

So, there it is, how is my quarter going to turn out to be? I have no idea, but it's not looking particularly shiny so far...
