Amazing

As I sit here at my computer desk and watch Barack Obama's acceptance speech being replayed, I reflect on how truely amazing it is that he made it in. Sure the nation is in an economic slump and Bush's approval rating is at an all time low. But almost 53 years ago (on December 1) Rosa PArks made history with something as simple as where she chose to sit on a bus. Less than 50 years ago, much of the area i live in was still segregated. Blacks and whites couldn't attend school together. I live in Greensboro, home to the infamous sit-ins. Blacks couldn't even sit at a counter and order food. And now, we have Barack Obama as our new president, a mixed race man. Sure race isn't the reason I am glad he is in office. It's the change he brings with him and even the symbol of change. The idea that we are moving from a bumbling idiot (Bush) who makes our country look like shit to a stong, well spoken black man (and with his middle name in these times!)- it is a symbol of how much our country desires change. I can only hope the rest of the world sees this as a change for the better. As a sign that we believe in equality for all people, not just rich whites. So congrats, Obama, you earned it.And thank you, Obama for renewing my faith in America.
