I'm a Momma!

Jonas Clayton Carter
Born June 19, 2008 at 7:35am (due date June 7)
7lbs 11oz and 20.5 inches long

My labor was crazy! Here is my blog copied from myspace:

Here is a little run-down of my LONG labor:
I was induced. I got the miso to ripen my cervix around 1am on Wednesday the 18th of June. It totally threw me into labor within 1.5 hours. I was 3cm and fully effaced around 3am on Wednesday (when I got there I was 1cm and like 10% effaced). I labored all day Wednesday and only got to 5cm.
They gave me pitocin to get me dilated more...but I can't remember what time that was on Wednesday...in the early afternoon I think.
I wasn't tolerating the petocin contractions well, so around 9pm I got some IV narcotics which totally helped me to relax and feel good for a couple hours. Then those wore off and I went back into full-on, painful labor.
I was still stuck at 5cm, so at 11pm Wednesday night, John and I decided for me to get an epidural. I was exhausted and couldn't relax at all. He couldn't see me like that anymore. I couldn't stop crying. I got the epidural around midnight on Thursday. It totally worked.
By 1:15am on Thursday my water broke. I relaxed (couldn't sleep though) until around 3 am when I started feeling harsh contractions. They checked to see how dilated I was...around 7cm, so they gave me another dose of epidural to keep me relaxed.
By 5am I was fully dilated. Epidural was wearing off well. The nurse worked with me to make sure I'd be able to push properly. I could feel a LOT of pressure, so it wasn't hard to figure out how/where to push. We waited until my friend Katie got back with us since my doula had to leave for her vacation at 8:30pm on Wednesday. Katie got there a little after 6am and I pushed him out at 7:35am on Thursday.
I tore (2nd degree). I had my favorite midwife on call, which rocked!. He had to sew me up...he said that it was the best kind of tear...so that's good, I guess.
I was completely totally utterly exhausted and STARVING! I didn't sleep more than an hour or so Thursday. We had a LONG night Thursday-Friday because Jonas was throwing up old blood and mucus that he swallowed. It was hard to watch because he gagged so much and we had to use the suction thingy every time. Poor lil guy!
So by daytime on Friday we were spent....all 3 of us. Jonas wouldn't eat so the jaundice came on quick. I was discharged on Saturday and went directly with Jonas. He had to stay an extra day (extra after the 2 days that they wanted us to stay for observation for gbs since I didn't take the antibiotics) under the heat lamp thing. It was sad. I stayed with him, of course, but there wasn't enough room for John to sleep too, so I was all alone and not able to hold my son for more than 30 minutes every 3 hours. At least I got lots of sleep...I just wanted to pass the time.
Jonas was doing well with the treatment and was discharged at noon-ish on Sunday. We got to go home!!!!!!!

Jonas is perfect! He is adorable. He weighed in at 7lbs 11oz and he was 20 1/2 inches long (but he shrunk, since he had a cone head).
