fanmix: They'll Sharpen Their Teeth On Your Smile

Jun 22, 2009 22:23

So, I made a Sharp Teeth fanmix. Yeah, it's based on a book that seemingly few people have read, though I can't understand why because it's piles of awesomeness in literary form, but I digress. I am super, super proud of this mix, from the song selections to the sequencing, from the artwork to the fucking typography, so please humor me and pretend to care about my obscure fandom.

A brief overview of the book: A guy with little going on takes a job as a dogcatcher in modern day Los Angeles. He soon crosses paths with an enigmatic woman who unbeknownst to him is a werewolf, sent to the city pound by the leader of her pack to befriend the dogcatcher for reasons initially unclear. It turns out that there are rival packs, and though they all have different strategies and follow different philosophies, in the end it's whichever pack that has the hungriest members that rules the territory. And then there's a lone detective, trying to figure out why there are so many dogs in the area and why they're always around whenever anything goes down...

Some notes (possible SPOILER ALERT):
  • The first and last songs are actually part of a playlist that Toby Barlow, the author, made himself and that I borrowed from because they work so well in context of the story, the X song especially. Their music to me evokes the spirit of Los Angeles and the danger, sex, and adventure that the place often holds.
  • That's right, in my mind Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt play two of the lead characters. Pretty sneaky of me, wasn't it, since they're one of my favorite RP pairings. But I can't help it, they are who I pictured while reading the book. They're so shiny, the two of them, and are meant to be in many pictures together, photoshopped or otherwise.
  • In a more just world, people would be too busy fawning over Lark Tenant to give a shit about Edward Cullen because Lark is awesome and dangerous, and because they would cast him like I have as Matthew Goode. Seriously, why have you not bought this book yet?

sharp teeth, fanmix, music is my life
