Getting down and moving it all around...
I've recently reacquainted myself with the brilliant boybands of the late 90s/early 2000s (?) because I wanted to. Even those girls who claim to be 'too cool for boybands' and also 'school' cannot deny that boybands are part of who we are today. And they bring so much joy into your life...
A few weeks ago, before all this exam nonsense began, I was sitting in form, telling Elle and Laura that I'd been listening to 'We've got it going on' by the Backstreet Boys the night before. All 3 of us suddenly burst into...
'Jam on cause Backstreet's got it,
Come on now Everybody...
We've got it going on for years.'
Bands these days just don't have the same impact. And people who say they weren't talented can't deny that they are good dancers at least. And American boybands sang live at the same time (because they had to) and thats very hard to do, as many hours practicing dance routines and singing along at the same time proved.
I think its a crying shame that all the great boybands have disappeared. Yes, the Backstreets Boys are back (alright!) but they've returned with another ballad (bleh) and no crazy videos involving mythical creatures and 50 people dance routines which we all know and love.
And no - Irish boybands do NOT come under the good boyband category. They're just boring. American boybands always ruled the world. English boybands always seemed to be the slightly lazier version of American ones - they never put as much effort into dance routines.
That is why I am going to take it upon myself to be the first member of a new American boyband, which will follow in the great footsteps of the Backstreet Boys, N*Sync and O-Town. Anyone interested in joining this k-k-kerazy adventure please note me.
It will be tough, it will be sweaty, and it may even involve a bit of plastic surgery (or possibly a lot...) - but we will take over the world in all our boyband-ness glory.
