yuletide reveal and gift kudos
As always, I'm late with these, but I'll try to make it worth your while!
I recieved Life in a Dimestore Novel by the lovely blithers. I asked for Brisco/Dixie cuteness and she more than delivered - her story's got Comet The Ring Bearer, the boys in drag fighting the Swill Brothers, Brisco proposing to Dixie in mid-battle, and a wee baby. It's utterly adorable and beyond amazing and has introduced me to some fellow Brisco writers and fans, including blithers
My two fics, for wiselyparanoid, were entirely different writing journeys. golden mouths cry out, a Heavenly Creatures fic, started with a simple question - how do you make two girls who end up on opposite ends of Continental Europe, sepparated by a judgement, in the same place at the same time? wiselyparanoid wanted a happy ending for these two, and this I strove to provide it by taking the facts of what happened to Pauline (who's now a retired riding school mistress in Scotland) and Juliet (who was a stewardess until she successfully sold her first manuscript under the name Anne Perry, and makes her home in England). It's not hard to imagine a wee twist of fate for them; one missed connection for Juliet, one trip away from the academy for Pauline. I admit I left out the fact that they both got religion later in life (Juliet, Mormonism, and I believe Pauline became Pentecostal); in the fictionalization of "Heavenly Creatures", they were each other's religion. That was what I thought of as I built upon the story of them.
The second is The Power of The Coffee Bringers. wiselyparanoid wanted ANYTHING Zapp and Kif-centric. I considered slash, but ultimately ended up trying to tell the story of how they ended up meeting for the first time. Kif as an idealistic and naive new recruit into the DOOP is an easily-imagined idea - that Zapp obliviously crushed his dreams with his typical self-centered carelessness was the next step. Zapp isn't necessarily an amoral guy - he's just completely clueless about the effect of his actions on others, and is completely craven when he's forced to confront same. Kif, meanwhile, is both a stammering blusher and a fearless man of action when it comes to crises. And then cotton candy monsters happened, and it all flowed from there. Ironically, blithers betaed this for me!
