When It Rains, It Pours

As if I weren't already under enough stress...

My mom calls me tonight, crying hysterically, telling me that my sister had a seizure and is unconscious. I frantically race over to my parents' house, pull up next to two ambulances and run in to find six Paramedics in my house, lifting my little sister onto a stretcher. My mom is crying uncontrollably, and by now I've lost it too.

Apparently, my sister just went into the office to check her email and my mom walked in looking for her about 10 minutes later and found Kaitlin lying on the floor, twitching, with a puddle of drool next to her. Luckily, my dad has had a lot of experience with seizures and was really great. He just held my sister, saying "Kaitlin, come back, Daddy's right here" until the ambulance got there.

We have a long history of Diabetes and very severe Epilepsy in my family, so those were the first thoughts as to what might have caused it. Tests ruled out Diabetes, but unfortunately with Epilepsy, you can't be diagnosed until you've had several seizures. She was released from the E.R. this evening, but has to go two different doctors tomorrow for several more tests, and can't be left alone in case this happens again.

My poor sister is only 15 and has already had more hospital visits in 15 years than most adults I know. She is so brave and strong. It really makes me thankful for my good health.

On top of moving, exams, and my sister's health, my mom also has to have surgery this Friday afternoon. Its been a pretty rough turn of events for my family and I, please think good thoughts for us!
