Well at least they now have names. I won’t call them small guy, giddy guy and well dressed guy anymore.
“Nani sore?” Shinichi asked the well dressed guy named Junjun.
“Mail to order.” I absentmindedly answered.
“What is mail to order Mama?” Shinichi asked as he transferred from Zu-chan’s lap onto my lap.
“You choose things that you like from a catalog then you order it through mail. You can say it’s kinda like ordering things online.” I replied.
“Ahhh… ok.”
“Shin, can I ask you something?” I whispered.
“What is it mama?” he asked loudly turning the attention of the four guys towards us.
“Ssshhhhh…” I clasped my hand over Shinichi’s mouth and turned towards the guys and said…
“It’s nothing. You can go back to whatever it is that you’re doing.” I told them and then quickly whispering into Shinichi’s ear again.
“I want to ask you something but this time answer me quietly ok?”
“Ok mama.” Shinichi said quietly.
“Ahhhmmmm… who are these guys?”
“Mama… they’re Arashi. Did you forget? Oyaji is part of their group.” Shinichi whispered back.
“What is Arashi?”
“ STORM!” Someone shouted excitedly.
I turned around to see the guy named Aiba grinning .
“Ehhh Riya-chan why you asking? You know that because you married one of us ne?” Aiba asked in his broken English
“Oi… Aiba -chan baka de aruka .? Naze kaiwa wo kii teiruka .?” the guy named Junjun asked as he hit Aiba in the head.
As if he was not reprimanded by Junjun, Aiba repeated the question.
“Riya-chan why you asking that? You married to…”
“ We’ re here.” The driver of the van called out.
Although I wanted to ask Aiba who he was going to say I was married to, I held back since everyone were already preparing to go down the van.
“Ahmmm… Shinichi, where are we?” I asked Shinichi as he dragged me towards the gate. That was the only time that I realized we were outside a quiet neighborhood. Only a few houses were there. I am guessing that this is an exclusive village or something.
“Mama, this is where we live. This is our house.” Shin proudly pointed to the quaint house in front of us as we entered the gate. A small garden, mostly consisting of bonsais, made the surrounding more homey. But what caught my attention was a tiny spot beside the pond. Tiny rocks of different shades and texture were aesthetically arranged spelling a phrase.
I dazedly let go of Shinichi’s hand and went towards the rocks.
“Promises are meant to be broken…” I read what stones spelled.
“I wanted to prove that wrong.”
I turned around to see Shinichi’s dad standing behind me, his hands inside his pocket.
“Huh?”
“I made that the day you went away. I wanted to let you know that I know how to keep my promises even if you never believed me.”
“Ahhh…” I had no idea what he was talking about but I know it’s rude to turn my back from him so I continued to listen.
“I spent three years wondering where, how and when I would find you. I had no idea where to start. I was losing hope. Then when I saw Shin hugging you in the airport, I knew Kami-sama has answered my prayers. Riya… I’m sorry… please don’t leave us again…” I was too absorbed in what he was saying that when he suddenly hugged me I was caught unaware.
“Wha… What are you doing?” I panicked, trying to break free from his hug.
“Oi… you continue later… we hungry already.” Aiba called out from the window in english.
“Ok, ok” Shinichi’s dad as he broke our hug, held my hand and led me towards the house.
“Aiba-chan, eigo de hanashi te iru naze aruka?” I heard Zu-chan ask Aiba as we entered the house, wondering why Aiba was trying so hard to speak English
“Because… I want practice my English… maybe I get movie in Hollywood… because I am super idol Aiba-chan… hehehe..” he answered.
“Baka! Riya-chan wa nihongo wo rikai shitemoii.” Zu-chan said as he hit Aiba with a throw pillow.
He’s right. Aiba is just making it hard for himself. I can understand what they’re saying in Japanese but still could not figure out why I understood them. I never took any Japanese language course.
“Mama... what do you want to eat? Oyaji will cook for us.” Shinichi asked as he led me towards the couch in the living room.
“Nani? Anata no chichi ha chouri shiyou toshi te iruka .?” Junjun asked.
“Hai Junjun… Kare wa dai dokoro ni ima iru.”
Upon hearing that Shinichi’s dad is in the kitchen and is in fact contemplating of cooking dinner, he immediately stood up and rushed to the kitchen.
“Chotto matte. Nani wo shite iruka .? Hitotsu no taipu dake no shokuryou wo chouri dekiruI!!!” I heard Junjun squeal at Shinichi’s dad.
“Ahmmm… Shinichi… is it true? Your dad can only cook one type of food?” I asked the little boy as we were seated in the couch watching Zu-chan and Aiba outwit each other in a video game.
“Hai!” Shinichi answered cheerfully.
This is bad. I don’t need to eat something inedible right now. I am really hungry. I am actually craving for…
“KATSUDON???!!!” I heard Junjun scream from the kitchen.
