I must say, there is no better school than JHS.
First of all, my mentor teacher is so cool and laid back. After class today, he invited me over to his house to meet his wife and to again, invite me to stay over anytime I don't want to drive home. The commute isn't really far enough to justify it really, but what a nice gesture!
Secondly, the kids at JHS are cool. I have A LOT of girls...which means chatter, but they are so polite to the teachers on the whole. I would say even cute in their own way, like my Japanese students were. Their skill level is pretty low...but that is to be expected in a rural Southern school. Personally, I'd take slower, polite students over rude geniuses any day of the week.
Finally, the faculty and staff are so helpful. I can't emphasize what this means to a new teacher enough. The librarian is helpful with all the school's technology, my mentor teacher checks my lesson plans thoroughly, the principal is incredibly げんき. It reminds me of Eric's Younan School. You can walk through the halls and you just know that the teachers like their jobs and feel happy to go to work everyday.
I really want to work at this school, or one like it. Are there any small, rural schools in the San Antonio area? Probably not in a city that size, huh?
Oh, I totally went to a Carolina shag dance lesson with the homebound teacher last night. Yeah..JHS rules.
Thanks to everyone who is praying for my family right now. My grandfather ate a little last night and is in better spirits. It is still a sad situation, but the family is holding strong in Nashville.
