Quote of the whenever: "A good time to start something new"

I'm actually at college, my parents are gone, my roommate is here, and I'm totally moved in. It's fantastic! I love it here. I know, it's only been a day and a half, and my parents have only been gone for about an hour, but still... I love it.

At dinner last night, a guy in line in front of my roommate and I was getting very irritated about the wait that parents create. He told his friend (in an accent that I think was Pakistani) that he was going to die from hunger. His friend, confused and sort of amused at the same time, pointed out that you would probably have to starve first. The first guy replies with "No, it's a series of steps... first you don't eat, then you get hungry, then you starve, then you die... I just skip a step." Maybe you had to be there to understand but it was really funny.

Last night I had one of the craziest experinces of my life. We had Game Night at Ormsby (my dorm hall) during which we played one of the funniest games of Cranium ever... made even better by the language barrier that about a quarter of the players were experiencing. Afterwards a few of us were just hanging around outside talking, and I realized that I was the only one who wasn't bilingual. How often do you get that in a group of people in the US? Then I realized that everyone else was actually from somewhere else also, not just children or recent immigrants. There was me (little miss white bread suburbia), Sven (honest to goodness, Sven) from Iceland, Nils from Germany (he was hilarious... he tried to act out Shirly Temple during Cranium and ended up looking slutty... we were so confused!), Willijm from the Netherlands (her roommate is also a friend of sorts... Kristin, she has dreads that actually look really really good on her), Chiara from Rome (she's my roommate, as an fyi, and she's great), and then another girls from Germany, whose name escapes me but who had a beautiful accent. They were all talking about how wierd America is and stuff... it was so funny! But I've never had that before... the minority feeling. It was wierd... and fun.

But I should go... I have to finish organizing my closet. Oh yeah, I have a real closet, not just the wardrobe things. Chiara has one too. And our room is huge! I love it!

Ciao
