day 8 in costa rica: rafting

May 02, 2012 21:42

we woke up early, around 7 am, had delicious breakfast at the gaia hotel... then a van picked us up, and we drove for about an hour up some crazy tiny roads to run the savagre (savage) river. It was mostly class II/+ rapids. Andy and I rafted with two cute girls from Spain and it was quite marvelous. We both got sun-burned though. I love white water. It reminded me of the time I ran the rogue river in Oregon, and that made me look at kayaking schools... I've always wanted to do one, I think I'm going to put it on my todo list.

We had a marvelous guide, Fabian, who gave us a lot of nature info, and was also funny and kept trying to fuck us over, like almost tip us over, or make us run into giant bumps. We also swam in our life jackets, and I ran two mini rapids that way.. they told us to have our feet up and float on our backs so that we don't get caught on rocks. But that way I kept drinking and snorting river water.

We got back to the hotel, and Andy grabbed some dinner from El Aredo restaurant in Quepos, and we had another rainy sunset. We watched The Help, and had more delicious fruity cocktails.
