I was bored out of my mind (and let's face it, a little anxious) to get into work yesterday. I didn't know what shift Jessica was working, and did a little mental happy dance when I saw it was 12-10. I was closing with her.
I ran into my friend Sarah, and I walked around with her a bit, assuming that I'd run into Jessica at some point. Nothing. So we sat out front on one of the display porch swings and kicked around for 15 minutes, until Sarah really needed to leave.
I give up and walk into the break room with 10 minutes left until I need to clock in. SHE'S. RIGHT. THERE. She's trying to open one of the locked and mounted glass cabinets we have for the empolyee schedules.
She turns to see me and tosses her keys at me. "I'll give you $50 if you can open this."
"Really?"
"Really. I can't get it open."
I grin and try two keys. They don't work. I try a third and it opens like magic. I do a legit happy dance, like a touchdown dance. She looks like she can't decide if she wants to give me shit or slap herself silly. Then she tells me to make sure, and do it again. So I do. My hands are shaky, but I get it. She backpedals on the $50, so I mix up her keys so she has no idea which one it is, lol.
I give her a bit of hassle, telling her she'll have to pay up. But I show her which key and let her leave because there's a break room full of people, and I can't say what I really want.
I clock in, and walk out on the floor, and she's at the Hardware desk making a copy of that key. I lean across and tell her quietly that she'll have to just buy me drinks if she doesn't pay up. She gets that look on her face and she's being quiet, "You really are trying to get me fired."
I look offended and protest, telling her that if I wanted to get her fired, I'd be far more creative.
Either way, I move along, start working.
About 15 minutes later, I have to call her to unlock the side gate.
Steve is sitting on the forklift, waiting, and because of her sporty and striped shirt, he asks if she's going to be referreeing the soccer game after work. She tells him to fuck off, and we're laughing. She asks me if we need the gate locked, and I tell her not yet, and we start going to deal with the front porch. But I forgot the recovery bags. So I back track, and she's still there, and she's making fun of me. And she asks me if I have tape. I tell her Steve does, so we should be fine. She takes hers from her pocket and hands it to me, anyhow.
Somehow, when turning back around, I got a slug on her hair. I don't even. I swear. EVERYTHING goes crazy when I'm around her.
So Steve and I start walking along the side of the building, which is a fence. She's keeping the same pace as us inside. So we start heckling. Telling her to get Slug-o, Grub-x, all that stuff. And before she turns the corner, I yell out "GOOOOOAAAAALLLLLL!" She flips me off. :D
About an hour later I call her to get the gate locked because we are done outside.
Steve and I are loading something for a customer, but he wanders off, and Jessica starts helping me. And then she starts talking to me about the position I applied for in the store. I ask her if she's talking to me as my boss about some of these job details, and she was like, "Oh no! This is me telling you as a friend..." <3
Anyhow, the day was basically a handful of these conversations. Until about 8:30.
She pulls me and Steve from our department to help my friend Kerri just inside in appliances. We have to move allllllll the clearance stuff to the front of the store so they can put it on the sidewalk in the morning.
Basically from 8:30 - 10:00, it was a flirting fest. Which just seems to be a lot of teasing and hazing. She sent Steve off to do some random shit outside, and she had me helping her. And she called me KID, which, oh my, riled me up. I was, "WHAAAAAT? I'm 24!"
It's like, she has things to say, but people are always around. Always. So, she mumbles stuff, or just repeats what I say with a strange tone.
But anyhow, we all leave at about 10:00. I'm stalling, standing at my car with Steve, showing him the scratches on my hood that are mysterious. I'm eyeballing the door across the parking lot and she finally comes out. I stall a bit more, and Kerri calls because I'm supposed to be meeting her for a drink down the street. Jessica gets to her car, and I get off the phone. I wait for Steve and the rest to leave, and it's just me and her in the parking lot. I pull up next to her and invite her.
She asks if it's just me, and I tell her Kerri will be there. She grills me about Kerri, and I reassure her that Kerri won't talk. She's on the verge, asking me where I'm going. She's JUST ABOUT TO FOLLOW ME THERE, and she pussies out.
So we talk for about 5-10 minutes, just sitting in our cars. And then I ask again, and fuuuuck, she wants to. She even says, "Maybe we can do something in Auburn." And she asks how far that is for me. I tell her about 40 minutes. She asks how far it is for me to Portland. I tell her it's basically the same. She says it's silly for me to drive all the way to Auburn. I tell her it's even more silly for HER to drive to Portland since it's in the other direction, and she already has an hour drive. We volley back and forth on the pros and cons, and ultimately she tells me she will figure something out. She tells me to call her so she has my number, etc.
I go to meet Kerri for a drink and I text Jessica, and we basically start talking for a good hour before her phone dies. She tells me that she will see me tomorrow, because she's closing again, and sooooo ammmmm IIIIIIIIII. So maybe some more parking lot chat tonight. ME HOPES.
AND SO, CHILDREN, THAT IS THE STORY OF HOW TARYN GOT JESSICA'S PHONE NUMBER, AND GOT TO USE IT, ALL IN ONE NIGHT!
