She’s grinning against your mouth, and you’re laughing softly. And she’s moving her lips against yours. But you’re disappointed because she’s talking and not kissing. Something about practice making perfect. You don’t let her finish.
You’re smiling and pulling her face closer. And her hand is warm through your shirt when it moves along your stomach, and you moan softly when you realize how much you’ve missed this. How much you’ve missed her. So you take her bottom lip between your teeth and scrape. And she’s coming undone. Her hands are everywhere, and you start to feel dizzy, and you’re taking shaky breaths.
So you place your palms against her cheeks and you look at her. You really look at her. Her mouth is pink and wet and parted so slightly, and her eyes are green and shining and looking right back at you. And you say it.
You say it softly. And you hope that when you say it, she really hears it. You hope she understands that you can’t bear the thought of her going back to California. You think maybe she’s going to grin and toss it back to you, like a ball. So casual. And you don’t want to feel so naive and ridiculous about this situation you keep finding yourself in with her. But she doesn’t smile at you. Instead, her fingers curl into your sides, and she’s pulling you so tight against her.
She really hears you when you say it, and she says that she loves you too.
