So, I just finally checked back at the casting for
His Dark Materials - The Golden Compass. And I'm excited.
So.Damn.Excited.
Lord Asriel:
Daniel Craig - Exactly what I was expecting, only someone slightly darker. But the presence is perfect, god help me.
Marisa Coulter:
Nicole Kidman - Kind of concerned about this one. I don't want her to be some sleek and slinky chick.
Serafina Pekkala:
Eva Green - This is what you call perfect casting. Srsly.
Lee Scoresby:
Sam Elliott - Hee! Aeronaut!
Ragnar Sturlusson:
Ian McShane - What movie is without an Ian McShane voice?
Pantalaimon:
Adam Godley - Pan! Going to love him dearly.
December can't arrive fast enough. My goodness. Apparently, the director wanted to pull out some key things, like the blunt negativity on the church (Uhh, massive point in the whole series?), but Pullman said, "All the important scenes are there and will have their full value."
I hope so. Honestly, this trilogy blows away so much of this book to movie craze for me. If they keep it honest and the messages there, my god. A children's movie where people are overthrowing heaven for the good of all of the universe(s). For every last bit of humanity. If that doesn't win...EVERYTHING, then I don't know what does. It's ballsy and fantastic.
But really, to be honest there are moments that you just know will be horrifying to children. Absolutely horrifying, if they grasp the whole concept. I just really want them present and very much there, and not glossed over. They are what seperates this series from something like The Chronicles Of Narnia.
Again, sodamnexcited, athankyouverymuch!
