Poor Giles. How ironic he did become something of what he'd fought to not continue being. The naivete of youth gives way to the realisation of age.

Ouch. I find the guilt about Ben particularly poignant, since Ben was really a collaborator of Glory's by the time he died. I think the show did a nice job of contrasting him with Dawn. They're both tied up in the whole Glory mess, but Dawn is willing to die to save everyone, and Ben at the end is willing to let everyone else die to save himself.

Of course, Giles didn't know that at the time he killed Ben, so I don't think Ben's transgressions make Giles's actions any more excusable, either.

It's complicated and sad and I'm sorry the show never really followed up on it.

And double ouch about Buffy. That kind of rejection would have to be incredibly painful given Buffy's history of forgiving everyone else for just about everything.
