Following my disastrous encounter with Richard Wilkins,
Wesley believes that drastic measures must be taken to ensure the integrity of the timeline, lest this lead to an alternate future where Wilkins successfully Ascended and calamity ensued.
While I can certainly concur with his concerns, I must confess that our worrying may have been for naught.
After all, we are still here.
One would presume that, had Wilkins remembered our encounter here in the past, that both mine and Wesley's lives would be in danger. The worst-case scenario, in fact, would be that somehow Wilkins was able to succeed with his Ascension, in which case we -- along with
Buffy and the rest of Sunnydale -- would have been killed during graduation.
The fact that we haven't simply blinked out of existence, then, is significant.
Or perhaps not. I must confess a certain ignorance when it comes to matters concerning the manipulation and mangling of time and space.
In any event, I'm not certain that Wesley's determination to erase Wilkins' memories is a necessary course of action. It could be that Wilkins, upon encountering us later, merely forgets this earlier meeting. Nor am I certain it's even possible, at least without causing serious damage that would most certainly have an impact on the timeline.
That's not to say it's not an avenue worth investigating, however.
Wesley seems to think that the best route to Wilkins and whatever information he may possess is through his wife. I have no idea how he intends to persuade her to help...nor, I feel, do I want to know the particulars.
In the meantime, however, I shall prepare for a hasty retreat out of Sunnydale. While leaving Sunnydale might not be in our best interests, especially if there is anyone left in the present who might be looking for us, erasing Wilkins' memories does little good if we're still here to meet anew afterwards.
