Ethan. I should have known. Wherever he goes, chaos tends to follow.
In my time as
Buffy's Watcher, Ethan Rayne has proven to be the most irritating and unpredictable of foes. Even when he claims to bear an olive branch, one can be sure the tip of said branch has been whittled to a sharp point, to be used whenever your back is turned.
I blame myself for what happened. If I'd warned the others that Ethan was milling about Buffy's party, then perhaps whatever he had planned could have been averted.
Now, if I could just deduce what exactly Ethan did.
Buffy had just opened a package, presumably left by Ethan, containing an ancient-looking amulet. The amulet suddenly began to pulse with energy...there was a bright light...
...and when my vision cleared, I found myself standing with
Wesley in the middle of nowhere, in some kind of valley surrounded by trees, neither of us having any clue what had happened.
Wesley's put forth some theories. Perhaps we've been trapped in a parallel dimension, and separated from the others. Or perhaps, however unlikely, somehow the amulet's energies obliterated the surrounding area, somehow leaving the two of us as the sole survivors. Needless to say, I can already sense a growing anxiety with Wesley, due to the separation from
his wife and the uncertainty of whatever happened.
In spite of this uncertainty, I must confess to feeling a vague sense of familiarity to our surroundings, as I've been here before. As I'm not recognizing any distinguishing characteristics, I have to assume it's simply the area's serenity perhaps reminding me of the family home in England.
Wesley and I have made camp for the night, agreeing to keep watch on shifts, given that we've no idea where exactly we are. Of course, given that we're virtually defenseless, that may be a moot point.
But at least it's something to keep our minds of what might have happened to the others. For the time being.
Hopefully tomorrow will bring some answers.
