If you won the equivalent of $2,000, and had to spend it, what would you spend it on?
You're talking about money, right? I've never seen money, but I know what it is, more or less. Money is what they gave the Betty's crew in return for the host bodies. I heard Dr. Wren say that the General paid them in cash, and apparently cash is hard to come by these days.
I'm not sure I understand why money is so important. What I do understand, thanks to Ripley, is that money itself isn't worth anything -- you can't drink, eat or fuck it. If I was locked in here with money, and no one to give it to or take it from, the money wouldn't help me survive. Money is useless unless it's representing something, and that's what I don't understand. Why would anyone invent an object that can only serve as a substitute for the things they really need?
I know the offspring wouldn't understand money. If they need flesh, they take it. They would certainly never pay for it, no more than they would sell the flesh of their own kind. Assuming I "won" some money--and I doubt I ever will--I think the first person who tried to make me spend it would regret the decision.
