An open letter to The L Word writers

Dear Ilene and Co.:

As a fan I am now revoking your privelege of using the term "groundbreaking". I'm not stupid, I do know that there are no truly "original" stories out there, but there's politely borrowing a concept, and there's blatantly ripping off entire plot lines of a show that actually was groundbreaking in it's time. There's nothing polite about what you are doing, and at least the show you are ripping off from, Queer as Folk, actually had a tad bit of consistency.

Let me break this down for you, to keep it simple it'll be in this format QaF storyline/TLW storyline:

Lindsey and Melanie have a three way/Bette and Tina try to

Melanie, the type A personality, cheats on WASPy Lindsey/Bette, the type A personality, cheats on WASPy wannabe Tina

Lindsey and Melanie start a family, then break apart due to cheating/Bette and Tina start a family after breaking apart due to cheating

Melanie worries about adopting Gus/Bette worries about adopting Angelica

Deb, the motherly one of the bunch, works in a restaurant and nurtures everyone/Kit, the motherly one of the bunch, works in a restaurant and nurtures everyone

Deb refuses to marry her man (Carl?) until her gay son's marriage is acknowledged/Kit refuses to marry Angus until her gay friends can get married

Deb's brother dies while she is angry and can't say goodbye/Lara's girlfriend dies while she's away and unable to say goodbye

Brian gets testicular cancer/Dana gets breast cancer

Brian is the unobtainable beauty who everyone throws themselves at/Shane is the unobtainable beauty who everyone throws themselves at

Brain proposes to Justin when Michael's life is hanging in the balance/Shane proposes to Carmen when Dana's life ended

Michael runs off with Hunter to keep his mother from taking him away/Bette runs off with Angelica to keep her mother from taking her away

Ted and Emmett share a deep friendship, become lovers, then break up/Dana and Alice share a deep friendship, become lovers, then break up

Lindsey can't get over her feelings for a man, so sleeps with him/Tina can't get over her feelings for men, so sleeps with them

Brian has an uneasy to non-existant relationship with his father/Shane has a non-existant relationship with her father

Justin breaks off the wedding at the last minute/Shane breaks off the wedding at the last minute

Brian has a sexual harassment lawsuit brought up against him even though he innocent/Helena has a sexual harassment lawsuit brought up against here even though she's innocent

Ben gets a sexual appetite and rages on 'roids/Max gets a sexual appetite and rages on 'roids

So what's in store for the fourth season? Let me guess, Alice gets hung up on pills, so has to go to rehab, oh, Shane comes back, apologizes to Carmen and then proposes again when the Planet gets blown up during a Betty concert and Alice is near death. Alice and Lara decide to get married when the gang has a bike tour up in Canada for a good cause. Oh, and Shane will get syphilis.

Not only have you written the most predictable stories in TV history, but the blantant rip off then slapping groundbreaking on the stories is insulting to our intelligence.

Speaking of insulting our intelligence, do us a favour, if you BLATANTLY show something like

onscreen, please do us a favour and at least LINK everyone to the RIGHT people. For instance, just going from the consistencies you yourselves set up on the series, we know for a fact that Alice also slept with the guy she was in a band with, as well as the girl who became their bassist, then there's Lisa, and the guy that was originally Dana's blind date. We know that Dana slept with two girls prior to being with Lara, Alice and Tonya. Oh, and how can we forget that Lara was with Gabby JUST LAST FUCKING SEASON. Not to mention MAX was with BILLIE THIS DAMN SEASON.

Come on, stop insulting us. Stop insulting YOURSELVES with sloppy writing, shitty rehashed plots, and bad music. The one original thing you had, the transgender issue, you wrote terribly. That sucked the groundbreaking right out of that story.

It's also kind of amazing at how badly you can rewrite a story that worked fairly well the first go around, is it really that hard to damn near plaguerize a show?!

Thanks,

A pissed off fan who can't figure out why they still watch this trash other than for the fucking awesome acting, even with the worst storylines in history.

ETA: Another similarity I thought of
