They were clawing at her head again
Battering at her castle
Trying to eat away at the cruel smirk etched on her face
She bites the inside of her mouth
Tastes the blood
Her smirk grows
Her defences stand strong
'If I let you in,' she shouts carelessly, 'what will I have?'
'Friends,' they shout back
She places her hand on the door and laughs wildly
They don't want friends
They want to bare their souls, share their secrets, speak their lies, cry their truths
They want to hug each other, know each other, betray each other, forgive each other, be each other
Slowly love in until it is one giant, sponging mind, one giant living, breathing monster intent on devouring her castles villagers and gnawing away at the one thing humans can claim as solely their own
Her mind hardens
She wants to be cruel
To hurt them and crush them
When they told her she had hurt them she wanted to hug them
And when they forgave her and hugged her she wanted to strangle them
And two weeks later when they wanted something more from her, when they wanted her to lower the drawbridge
She built another fortification around her castle and pounded in the bolt on her door
She doesn't want friends
She wants acquaintances, the simplest, calmest room in her castle. Her library
Outside the battle rages while she close her eyes and inhales the scent of book
They don't even know how to begin to win
