[Background] Sakura was a young girl when she saw a then-unknown young fighter named Ryu win the very first World Warrior tournament, defeating the King of Muay Thai boxing, Sagat. Ryu's last-second, desperate victory inspired her, and instilled in the energetic schoolgirl a passion for fighting and a dream that someday, she would be just as strong as Ryu had been.
She began to train on her own, emulating the style of fighting that Ryu had used, but she longed to be trained by the man himself. In the events of Street Fighter Alpha 2, Sakura finally tracked down Ryu after a number of other encounters, and asked him to train her - though he refused, saying that he still had much to learn himself and didn't think he was suited to teach anyone yet. The two sparred, and then as Ryu left, Sakura took a picture of him to keep as a memento.
Shortly after, during Rival Schools and Project Justice, Sakura was involved in an incident where several local schools were suddenly plagued with kidnappings and random attacks on students and staff. Though her school wasn't one of those targeted, Sakura joined the fight to help out some friends of hers, Hinata Wakaba and Natsu Ayuhara, who were students at the schools in question.
In Street Fighter Alpha 3, Sakura once again decided to travel the world in search of Ryu, and to practice her street fighting along the way. Though she was defeated by her rival Karin Kanzuki, Karin admitted that the fight should have been Sakura's, since she was better, and the two parted ways. Sakura would also encounter Dan Hibiki, and after finding out that he had once studied under Ryu's former master (not knowing that he had also been kicked out), asked him to become her sensei.
Of course, once she found Ryu's best friend and rival Ken, Sakura ditched Dan to travel with the American, both searching for the World Warrior champion. They tracked Ryu down in Thailand, meeting up with former champion Sagat, but then realized that he was being brainwashed by dictator M. Bison. Sakura and Ken teamed up to fight Bison as Sagat began an impromptu rematch with Ryu. Sakura was badly injured during the fight - which was a prime factor in Ryu snapping back to his senses and breaking free of Bison's control. Afterwards, he reaffirmed his statement that he was not yet ready to train her, or even rematch her quite yet.
One wonders where the hell Sakura's parents were during all of this.
[Personality] Sakura is cheerful and energetic - perhaps overly energetic, even. She hates being bored above all else, and finds going to school as per usual incredibly boring. She frequently stays up late working on her training, and consequently often sleeps during classes - but that's okay, since she doesn't really care much for what she's learning anyway.
Once she's got her mind set on something, Sakura becomes very, very determined, and will stop at nothing to accomplish her goal. Defeat doesn't bother her - she's the sort of person who, if failing to succeed at something 100 times, will be excited about trying it for the 101st time. As one might expect, Sakura is very emotionally resilient. In the end, though, she IS still a teenager, still kind of childish and naive, and is rather headstrong and impulsive.
Okay, very headstrong and impulsive.
Still, she's friendly and makes friends easily - particularly if you're a potential sparring partner for her. Sakura loves to fight, and she loves to fight people stronger than her - after all, how else is she going to become as great a fighter as her idol, Ryu? She doesn't mind losing a fight, because losing only makes her better.
[Specialties/Abilities] Sakura uses an emulated, self-taught version of the Ansatsuken / Shotokan fighting style practiced by Ryu (and Ken). She's a pretty competent fighter, especially given her age and inexperience. Sakura, like the others, is able to control her ki to some extent - though her Hadoken isn't as powerful as Ryu/Ken's, she's actually the only one in the series who is able to manipulate its size at will, showing a greater deal of innate control than the others possess. Sakura has also been able to use the Shinkuu Hadoken in short bursts.
[Affection] Sakura is a very naturally affectionate person, and once she's become friends with someone is very prone to hugging them / teasing them, particularly if they're other girls. A bit shyer around boys - at least the ones she likes, anyway. All types of affection are okay towards Sakura, though how she reacts might differ.
[Fighting] Oh yes. Oh VERY yes. Sakura is a pretty damn good fighter, with lots of natural aptitude and an innate ability to learn from observing - held back only by inexperience at this point. She will actively challenge others to fights, and welcomes challenges herself. Can injure or even kill (if she picks the wrong fight) but... well, look at her. She's so cute. How could you kill her?!
[Other Facts] Worst. Parents. Ever.
