First things first,
vange and I
started a new blog that is basically chocolate and peanut butter 2.0. It's Parks & Rec quotes on pictures of Empires styled like all the existing hipster shit on Tumblr. It is a joke that only a few will appreciate but it's still pretty funny, if I do say so myself. Empires might as well be Mouserat or Andy might as well be an honorary member of Empires.
Now, for the important stuff.
Community does such a wonderful job of making fun of Britta. She would think she was so cool for hanging out with a lesbian and hypocritically calling Annie a homophobe. What I really loved, though, was that when Britta was humiliated after the truth was revealed about Paige, Annie didn't rub it in her face, she just comforted her and maybe tried to kiss her. (Oh Annie, I adore you and your sexual curiosity) I also loved Jeff finally admitting that he loved his crazy friends. I love any series that has a ragtag, dysfunctional, makeshift family and Community has really excelled at that. All of these people are essentially alone, except for each other. Annie's estranged from her parents and had no friends before Greendale, Troy's high school friends moved on and he was forced to move out of his house, Abed's mother has a new family and his dad is emotionally distant, Britta and Jeff give off the impression that they prefer being loners, individuals who are better than everyone, when the opposite is true, Shirley has her boys (and her ex, for now) but that's it and then there's Pierce, who has no family, except for the occasional stepdaughter that hits him up for money. They are all so different but they're all just looking for the same thing: each other.
Last night also gave us a wonderful Troy/Abed moment and a continuation of the super dark Pierce storyline they've been building up for weeks. Donald Glover really hit the nail on the head when he said that Troy and Abed's relationship is kind of tragic, because it's so obvious that Troy has all these complicated feelings for Abed, but because Abed is Abed, he is completely oblivious and probably always will be. I know the show will, sadly, never go there, but how wonderful would it be if there was this multi-episode arc about Troy coming to terms with his feelings and trying to communicate them to Abed and it eventually culminating in something? Alternatively, is there a fic like this and if so, where can I read it?
As for Pierce, guys, seriously, it's killing me. My dad has been taking Vicodin and morphine for years, now. IT IS SERIOUSLY HITTING A LITTLE CLOSE TO HOME. I kind of want to write Dan Harmon a letter to stop spying on my life.
Now for Parks! Oh Ron and Tammy, you do not disappoint. Their craziness was crazy, kimonos, cornrows, mustaches being rubbed off due to friction, Tammy beating the absolute shit out of Tom, etc., it was all I ever wanted. What was even better, though, was Ron picking up a tiny Aziz Ansari and carrying him like a firefighter out of the library. Oh this show. ♥
There was also a great B-storyline about April being Chris' assistant and it being her living hell. Naturally, my favorite part was Bert Macklin, with the fucking FBI, rescuing her. Also I'm really just loving Ann and Chris together, I like it's giving Ann a lot of little moments of character growth and development. I am SUPER intrigued to see how they get Chris and Ben to stay in Pawnee, though. Are they going to keep telling Indianapolis that they still have so much work to do in Pawnee or are they going to try and get permanent jobs or what? I can't wait to find out.
Finally, let's talk about how absolutely goddamn wonderful Ben Wyatt's pining for Leslie Knope is. Like, I can't get over it. He just keeps falling love harder and harder and it's WONDERFUL. He's so awkward and darling (I will never stop loling at his calzone suggestion and everyone's subsequent disapproval of it. DON'T BE A JERRY, BEN) and that scene with the police chief was AWESOME. I want to watch him ask fumbling questions about Leslie's dating history forever.
Of course, the best part about this is that Leslie is that amazing. It was so important to her to throw this pizza party for the cops of Pawnee (sidenote: that quick-cut of the all of the police officers telling the camera about the Tammy and Ron situation that was happening in the bar was genius) and to make sure to ask the police chief at exactly the right time for the Harvest Festival favor, but once Tammy showed up, protecting Ron became her main priority. I love what a great friend Leslie is, how helping Ron escape Tammy's clutches became the most vital thing in her life, temporarily forgetting the Harvest Festival, even though it is the most important event of her career. And the best part was, the police chief was going to help her out, even if she had never thrown them a pizza party because Leslie does everything for everyone. She's always doing favors and volunteering and letting people know they're appreciated (like when Mark and Tom forget to give the sanitation guys beer like Leslie always does and the raccoons almost ruin the Christmas tree lighting). And as Ben realizes this, realizes what a wonderful, unique person she is, he just falls so hard. SO HARD. And I love it. The only thing missing is Leslie falling for him, but I kind of prefer it this way. Ben attempting to woo her will be amazing enough.
