There is ONE thing you guys are going to need to understand for the next 17 days.
The Olympics are on.
And if there is ONE thing I get into, no matter my emotional state or anything else, it is The Olympics.
This was best exhibited by the last Summer Games when my obsession with the Olympic swimmers became almost sickening. I still have a GIANT collage of Michael Phelps/Ian Thorpe/Aaron Piersol/Pieter Van Den Hoogenbanden/Ian Crocker on my ceiling at home. There wasn't a minute of the swimming that I missed.
And dont get me started on how I stayed up until 12:30(late for me in high school) to watch the Men's Gymnastic's Final.
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that I will be watching as much Olympic coverage as I can. I will only watch other things when 24, Lost and American Idol are on. And even then I will be flipping. I will become fiercely patriotic and always root for the American even if the American is an asshole. And speaking of assholes, if the athlete is the biggest douchebag in the world, but is attractive, it doesn't matter. I will root for them.
So I'm just giving you fair warning. I will be ALL ABOUT the Olympics until February 26. I will cry because nothing gets me choked up like inspirational stories (I almost cried at the opening ceremonies tonight because of the Koreans walking together. I'm so emo about these games). I will cheer, be silly and be aggressive.
I may almost kill my roommate. She has NEVER watched them before. I feel that she is bad American right now. Also since she has never watched them, she keeps asking me questions, forcing me to miss Bob Costas tell me every single detail about anything I could ever hope to hear. She does not understand my love for this event.
Oh, and before I go play in PS7 (I promise I'll figure out how to .zip it becs!) I have to comment on the Opening Ceremonies tonight. I hope you watched.
-First of all, this is obviously the year of the funny hats. Every country's hats were unbelievably obnoxious. It made me laugh...a lot.
-The ceremonies' producers had to have taken mounds of acid before designing the show. Seriously. What was most of that?
-The Ferrari doing doughnuts was by far the coolest part, thus solidifying myself as someone who is entertained by simple things
-the abundance of 80's and 70's dance/disco music that played during the Parade of Nations made me go all kinds of "WTF?"
-Bob Costas is officially, the first sports broadcaster I would totally do, just because of his voice and abundance of useless information. I seriously don't think I could ever watch them without him.
-The amount of one person team countries made me happy. They're my favorite. Well besides the USA of course. Seriously though, there's a dude from Bermuda who went ELON for fuck's sake. And he's in the Winter Olympics for skiing. How the hell does that happen?
-Also I would like to know how the HELL a 52 year old woman gets to the Olympics in the Luge event. Dude, I would SO move to a different country and do some crazy sport like that and suck at it, JUST to say I was an Olympian.
That's all for now. But oh the Olympic updates will be many. Very many. Flists beware...
(also the first of what could be a stupid amount of Olympic icons)
