Some fandom thoughts

Instead of studying for my Spanish test, I watched "Heart" again. (For those of you who don't know me super well, my name is Cattlin and I am an emotional masochist) I really did cry this time. I'm one of those people that the more I watch something, the more emotional it becomes to me. This is also probably why watching Star Wars makes me cry.

Anyway, I would like to say something to our little fandom that I love dearly. I was surprised to find that so many people did not care for this episode (sex scene excluded). Last week, as much as I did like Roadkill, I did understand how a lot of people weren't 100% into it. This week though, I'm confused.

But from what I read, the dislike points to two main reasons
A) SPN's version of werewolves
B) The angst

Ok, I love werewolves and have been waiting for them since I started watching this show. And I loved these werewolves. I love that Supernatural makes these traditional monsters and everything their own. They give them depth and heart (no pun intended). But yes, they didn't have fur. But really...I love this show with all my little heart and soul but let's be honest...their budget doesn't necessarily allow for the best special effects and makeup. And we all know nothing will ever beat the transformation scene in An American Werewolf in London and Kripke knows that too. I think they kept their werewolves hairless to make them Supernatural's own breed of werewolves. Also, I think that it emphasized the fact that werewolves are still people, people that don't know what's happening to them. And this season, Supernatural has really explored this grey area of what's evil and what's supernatural (first seen in "Bloodlust" which is still one of my fav s2 episodes). I think it was important that they weren't hairy beasts-it allowed for a better parallel to Sam, which is what this episode was about anyway. It also made what happened to Madison that much more heart-breaking.

Now the angst. I love angst to tiny little pieces, so I am obviously biased. That doesn't mean I don't want the boys to be happy though (because no one wants a happy ending more than I do) and I think that's how Kripke/Sera Gamble/Kim Manners/etc feel. But they have to put the boys through the ringer. They have to. That's the point. This series is not about killing ghosts and supernatural monsters. This series is the story of two brothers. Two brothers realizing things about themselves and each other as they kill aforementioned ghosts/monsters.
So, yes, it does seem just cruel and unusual to put Sam in a situation where he has to kill a woman he cares about. But, this is one of the most important episodes for Sam (and Dean). Sam now knows what Dean feels like when it comes to saving him. He gets it. And this can only strengthen their bond. Through the angst, the tears (oh those tears) and the heartache, the boys grow and become stronger. You know that saying, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger? It's true. And that's exactly what the powers that be are doing to the Winchesters.

Also, while no one's really said this, I think we as a fandom got ourselves spoiled a few weeks ago. "Born Under a Bad Sign" and "Tall Tales" are easily two of the most popular (and undoubtedly) best of the series so far. And they happened back to back. Then we had a month hiatus and were then given a (good) stand alone and then the saddest damn episode in months. And I think some people are comparing Roadkill and Heart to them, and well, that's just not fair.

I don't know. It is hard for me to see wrong in the things I love, but I honestly believe a lot of the dislike for the past two episodes is kind of ridiculous. But then again, maybe it's just me.

Ok, I had to get that out of my system.

Anyway, while still on the subject of Supernatural, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE Vote for it here. It's E!Online's Save One Show campaign and it really does help. I think you can only vote once (I don't know I haven't cleared my cookies yet to try again) and I would really, really appreciate it if you guys would take a second and vote for it. Now, if you're obligated to vote for another show (like say VMars is your fav show on TV) I understand, but if you're not, I'd love you forever if you voted for Supernatural ♥

And now, vange is on her way to come pick me up and we are heading to Boone to see Jeff (soul_bastion) for the night. I'll be back tomorrow evening, but until then, TTFN kids

thoughts, supernatural
