You Got Some Weird Friends, Man.

More Final Fantasy VII Rebirth! I've just finished the tournament on the ship to Costa del Sol.

I like Rhonda! And I love that Aerith seems delighted to have such a large bounty on her head. She's worth half a million! What an ego boost.

I love the young woman asking, 'Where do they keep the smutty stuff?' as she looks around the Junon bookshop.

Barret mimicking Yuffie's cutesy little wave is incredible.

Is Nanaki putting on an 'older' voice so we'll take him more seriously? When we heard Aerith speaking to what sounded like a young man in her room, was that Nanaki's real voice? I'm going to laugh extremely hard if so.

I've never had much interest in Cloud/Tifa - 'childhood friends to lovers' is a type of relationship dynamic that never seems to work for me, unless you add 'to enemies' in the middle - but the remake is making Cloud and Tifa's relationship slightly sad and uncomfortable in a way that makes me more willing to give it a chance. I still prefer Cloud/Aerith (and Tifa/Aerith, and Tifa/Barret), but I'm enjoying Cloud and Tifa's scenes alone more than I was expecting to.

oh my God it's Roche :D :D :D

I love Roche. He's absolutely ludicrous. I'm so pleased he's back.

I love that the music for the mission where you're escorting a dog is a remix of Stamp's theme.

I found some sheet music at last! A lot of the side content in this game is a little tedious, I think, but I like Queen's Blood and I love the piano minigame.

I laughed aloud at the dramatic vision I had after beating Cameron at Queen's Blood. Can't wait to learn all the stupid card game lore.

I'm not entirely sure about Kyrie, largely because every scene with her feels like it should be a scene when Yuffie instead, but I did enjoy her mercenary song, and the fact that Red XIII laughed (and then tried to pretend he hadn't) when she made fun of Cloud. One of my favourite things about the remake is the fact that it doesn't take itself too seriously.

Speaking of which, the frog sidequest was unashamedly stupid bullshit and I had a great time. These kids seem incredibly chill about the fact that hanging out near the reactor turns them into frogs for unclear reasons.

I'm definitely settling more comfortably into this game now that I've identified what side content I actively want to hunt down (sidequests, protorelics, Queen's Blood, sheet music) and what side content I can leave undone unless I happen to be in the area.

Is this Glenn guy going to turn out to be Cloud's father? His hair has me very suspicious.

I'm cracking up at the ludicrous physical performance of the officer who accosts us when we've just changed into uniform. This game is stupid. I'm so pleased.

Trying to give a good performance at the parade is REALLY STRESSFUL in both the original and the remake. I don't want to embarrass myself in front of the fictional crowd!

Rufus turning off the cameras to have an intimate, private conversation with his enemy in front of an oblivious crowd is weirdly... hot? It's weirdly hot.

Oh, my God, the Seventh Infantry are my friends and I find myself bizarrely invested in them. I hope I don't end up having to kill them.

'The mobile unit would have loved to have you,' Roche says to Cloud, and, oh, I just bet they would.

I love Roche. Best new character added in any Final Fantasy VII expansion. I love how ridiculous he is. I love how cheerfully and openly he wants to fuck us.

Love Cloud saying, 'For what it's worth, I'm sorry' when he thinks he's been found out by his men.

Can't believe they didn't put Red XIII in a sailor's uniform. Cowards.

Aww, Cloud and Tifa's little fistbump before the Queen's Blood tournament is cute!

I will destroy you, Chadley. I hope I beat you so hard at cards that your CPU explodes.

Holy shit, Red XIII. I'm sorry I ever doubted this game. I laughed aloud at 'It can't hurt you.'

It took this game a little time to click for me, but it has absolutely clicked by this point. It's so beautiful and fun and stupid. I'm having a great time.

final fantasy, final fantasy vii
