I'd like to point you towards just looking at you i enjoy myself by suitablyskippy, who writes such a good Komaeda that I'm a bit worried about her. It centres on Hinata and Komaeda but features a lot of the other characters as well, and it's got a really wonderful sense of ( Read more... )

Yay, I got you playing! :D

I swayed between loving and hating Barret through the whole of FFVII. He always seemed to me to be determined to do good things, but had a slightly scewed moral compass. I believe a bystander in the street at some point has a line about civilians getting killed in the explosion from the mako reactor Avalanche blew up. Oops.

Aerith and Aeris are both perfectly fine. Different people will call you out on using either, so I'd just pick the one you think sounds prettier and use that.

I was determined NOT to like Aerith when I played through, knowing as much about the game's plot as I did, but I just couldn't help it. She really is written very well. :)

Midgar is great, but there are plenty of other awesome places around the world map. And besides, you can get back into Midgar eventually, so never fear.

When I told my boyfriend Matt Smith was leaving Doctor Who, he paused for a moment and then hopefully said, 'Is he taking Steven Moffat with him?' That pretty much sums up my opinions of the latest seasons of Doctor Who, haha. Matt Smith's all right as the Doctor, but he's had the misfortune of working entirely with my least favourite showrunner.

Barret definitely doesn't think things through on a moral level. I think he has quite a black-and-white, good-and-evil view of the world. Shinra is evil, so any action that impedes Shinra is good, regardless of other consequences.

I definitely spoke to someone in Midgar who mentioned that innocent people had been killed in the explosion, yes. It really struck me. I like that this game doesn't just go 'these guys are blowing up a power station, BUT IT'S COMPLETELY FINE BECAUSE THEY'RE THE GOOD GUYS'.

I'm also not a Moffat fan. I'll give him credit for doing some interesting things with time travel, but he tends to get a bit wrapped up in his own cleverness and I don't think he's very strong on characterisation. It's a great shame that Smith's only been working with him. On the other hand, Smith managed to make Moffat's series watchable for me, so I suppose that's one positive thing that came out of their combination.

That's a perfect description of Barret - I've never heard it said better! And I agree, it's great that a lot of the game is vague on who the good guys are. They make the people seem real without being too bleak about humanity.

Unfortunately, Smith didn't manage to save it for me. Perhaps I would have liked him under a different writer.
