I seem to have fallen very suddenly and sharply back in love with Final Fantasy VIII. The plot may be completely incoherent, the love story may be awkwardly told, but oh, that cast. I've never had the nerve to give the hot dogs order! I've always been tempted to, because I'm curious about what Squall actually says, but I'm scared Nida will tell me off. Perhaps I should have done it for Zell's sake.
I seem to remember that I did have Irvine in my party on my first playthrough, despite having taken against him at first. I think it was because my party was Squall-Zell-Rinoa, and then Rinoa went out of commission for most of the third disc. Irvine was the highest-levelled of the others, so he replaced her. Of course, had I understood the magic junctioning system at the time, I'd have known that levels don't mean a great deal in Final Fantasy VIII.
Since then, I've never had Rinoa in my primary party, knowing she'd be unavailable for a good chunk of the storyline, until this playthrough, ( ... )
