I've never been a big Rigsby/Van Pelt 'shipper - nothing in particular against the pairing; I just don't think they have much chemistry - but there are some moments between them that I really love, and the end of 'Like a Redheaded Stepchild' is one of them. Van Pelt is engaged to someone else, but when Rigsby kisses her it's not an invitation to ( Read more... )

What is it about Jane that makes me want to read phonesex? I suppose it's because Jane in my personal canon never actually has sex; phonesex is something that can be sexual for one of the pair, whereas the other is just enjoying constructing a scenario (and occasionally throwing entirely unerotic comments in, just to be a pain in the neck).

Also, phone sex where one of the characters is amazingly good at manipulating people by talking to them is an incredibly fascinating idea. There's typically a certain vulnerability in erotic situations anyway, and Lisbon would be very aware of Jane's penchant for mind games and manipulation and quite likely he would be more interested in playing games than in actual sex, and she'd have to trust him that these were well-intentioned games of the sort she wouldn't seriously object to (because he would at least be somewhat annoying at times, that's certain).

Wait, was it predictable or just foreseeable? The latter is a good thing, even if it has the potential to reduce the element of surprise; shock ( ... )

You haven't actually watched The Mentalist, have you? I'm amazed by how good a grasp you have of the characters.

That is a really good point. It's probably quite likely that Lisbon would flat-out refuse to have phone sex with him, actually. FINE, LISBON, RUIN MY DREAMS.

I miss my icon of Lisbon on the phone. It would be ideal here.

I bought a DVD as research for the Mentalist/Psych crossover no one would read even if I wrote it am just really good at characterization of every character ever! It's my superpower!

Yeah, she probably wouldn't go for it. Although he might pull the "I'll just surreptitiously turn this conversation into phone sex" trick.

Derren Brown and Patrick Jane... they would see it as some sort of competition, wouldn't they?

They would! They completely would!

I could see Derren Brown getting sexually excited, not by the actual sexual content, but by the hints that he may actually be succeeding in manipulating Patrick Jane in some way. Of course, there'd still be the question of whether it was a "I'll pretend your head games are working on me to lure you into a false sense of security" feint or not, but that would just make it more interesting.
