"We cannot trust the evidence of our senses, Watson," my friend cried; "there must be some trickery, such creatures do not exist," but all his reason did nothing to dispel the fanged men at the door.

Hee, awesome.
I think I need to read the Sherlock Holmes stories soon but I suspect I'll be disappointed if there's nothing about Holmes fighting off vampires with a swordstick whilst pulling some spectacular kung-fu moves.

I'm surprised you haven't read them! They're not great works of literature, but they are quite good fun, especially the vampire-swordstick parts, and I adore Holmes and Watson.

I've been putting off reading them since I started the Victorian!Derren thing, since I have a terrible habit of unconsciously absorbing whatever I read and that turning up in my writing. I didn't want to start getting plot bunnies for another Victorian AU while I'm still working on that one. But I don't think I'm going to be done with that for a while yet and I really want to read the Sherlock Holmes stories so I think I'll just have to risk it.
