Obama won! Obama won! I sort of wanted to dance my way into campus today. Thank you, America!

I feel that this really could be the start of a change for the better. Had I any video-editing skills, I would replace Troy's head in 'Start of Something New' with that of Obama. Possibly Gabriella's head, too ( Read more... )

I, for one, welcome our new Time Lord overlord.

I would totally have voted against Proposition 8, but I was prevented from doing so by the fact that I was half a continent away. :< I did, however, help ensure that idiots can constitutionally vote in Iowa.

...no, actually, I'm not joking.

I brought your Obama-is-the-Master theory up on the train with a gentleman from my course and a couple of friends of his yesterday, and this led to my conversing on Doctor Who for the rest of the train journey with a man I didn't know. You helped me be vaguely social! For that, I thank you.

I did, however, help ensure that idiots can constitutionally vote in Iowa.

Oh, do tell.

The Iowa constitution, because state constitutions are all old and crazy, expressly forbid idiots and insane personsfrom voting. There was an amendment on the ballot to change that language to persons adjudged mentally incompetent to vote. I voted to change the language ^_^.

Right! I'd sort of imagined that perhaps people kept coming up to you to say 'Um, I'm here to vote, but I don't know how' or 'Which one is Obama again?', and you pointed them in the right direction.

Man. So, the day before the election, someone told me that 40% of my county had already voted. Given that 40% is traditionally a pretty good turnout for an entire election, to have that number early-voting was pretty stupefying. Apparently this election saw the biggest voter turnout since 1908.

I'm so proud of my cynical, apathetic country right now.

I've always been pretty apathetic about elections; there's a general 'nobody really wants a politician in charge, so just go for the least of the evils' feeling over here: a 'vote against the party you don't want' attitude, rather than 'vote for the party you do'. This is the first election I've ever followed where I've been thinking 'I really hope this party wins', rather than 'I really hope that party doesn't win'. Obama has broken through my cynicism and given me faith in politicians.

...

Stop hogging him, America.

I know. I supported him since the primaries for... basically that reason. Not because I think he's going to be a miracle cure to all our country's ills or even necessarily that he's got the best eye for policy of anyone - though what I've seen, I like - but he inspires people. And if there's one thing I want to trust more than a president, it's an American populace which thinks it can actually affect policy in America ( ... )

I told Other Gamestop Guy about your Obama=the Master theory and he agreed with me before I even had a chance to present all of the arguments for the theory. It disappointed me a little. I had rehearsed the speech and everything. (I like freaking out total strangers who may turn out ot be my future coworkers, okay?)

XD

I'll admit, I will be slightly disappointed if we don't wind up making first contact with an(other, given the Master) alien race within the first few days of Obama being sworn in. But I suppose if we don't, it just means that the Doctor's undone the paradox and saved us all again. ^__^

I dunna, I think the Master has too much style to try the same trick twice. Besides, we've figured out that he's actually Riona, trying to destroy the human race by unleashing tons of terrifying crackfic on us.

But what happens if humanity adapts to survive and even thrive on the crackfic? What then?

Obviously the plan isn't going that well, which is why the Doctor hasn't stepped in yet.

Maybe she's implanting subconscious commands in the crackfic.

Ooh, clever. And perhaps she's even managed to get the Doctor addicted to the crackfic she's spawning.

I'M ON TO YOU, RIONA.
